Yeah i was actually chip leader with 234000 with 20 people left. I ended up finishing 17th, i went from chip leader to out in about 10 hands. Heres why:

Hand one (234000)- ryan little raises to 30 pre-flop. I look down at queens and push all in. He calls me with 88 and hits trips on the flop. That was a 250,000 pot. I would have had 400 grand plus and final table for sure.

Hand 2 (120000)- three hands later i look at KQ suited on the button and raise it up to 30. (blinds 5/10). BB calls. Flop comes AQJ. He checks, i bet another 30. He pushes all in. i fold, he clearly has the ace, and shows it after i fold.

Hand 3 (58000) - Blinds are 8 and 16 thousand with a 2 thousand ante, so im pretty short stacked. I look at 88 and go all in. Both blinds call and shoe 99 and TT respectively. I couldnt believe it.

I won $250 for 17th, but it could/should have been much more. That damn 2 outer against my queens
Anyway it was a good night, i got home at about 3am and had to work today which wasnt that good.

I too loved the lanyards. Bit disappointed in NPL handing out the dvd/Ivey mag combo for the top 50 though... everyone must have at least 3 copies of each now.

Hi Aaron,
Thought I would clear some things up.
1.) Top 50, DVD's and mags? Who told you that bullshit? From 50th - 31st recieved at least a deck of copags and UDB worth about $60.
2.)
It makes you wonder if making the final table of NPL state finals is a great achievement

Think before you type mate, the call was quenstionable, yes, but as stated, he is a shortstack, he can be moving with anything even with AK you are still only a 3 or 4 to 1 dog MAXIMUM. Des put his money in when he was behind (and knew he was behind) but was willing to gamble to remove a player.

Bad calls are made all the time, but something I don't see in a lot of players is aggressiveness or the willingness to gamble when there is something worthwhile on the line. I saw some absolutely fantastic calls and plays from several players when we were down to the final 50; I saw one player call an all in bluff, for his tournament life, on the turn with bottom pair, he went into the tank, thought it through and called. It was a superb and phenomenal call, one of the best I have EVER seen, unfortunately his opponent rivered a King.

Every single player in those last 3 to 4 hours of the tournament deserved to be there and were playing some fantastic poker (as many of the spectators can attest to) so do not begrudge a player or the skills of players or the accolade of achieving final table based around one hand.

Hey Garth.

1) I don't remember exactly, I think it was Des. Don't quote me on that though, but I remember a few players that made the recombine talking about it. My mistake though, I assumed that was the prize.

2) The call was questionable, yeah. All I was saying is, its with calls like that that make me wonder whether doing well in state finals is anything akin to doing well at WSOP or a bigger tourny. I'll say again, obviously making final table is a great achievement, its just that you see calls like that and get disappointed. Yeah its one hand, and I wasn't at the table so I can't put across a full opinion, but that's just how I feel.

Hi there everyone, glad to see I wasn't the only one who enjoyed their day. :) I must congratulate the NPL staff and members for putting on another great State Final. 8-) 8-) :) :(    :geek:  By the way I loved the ante sytem.

The trip from Salisbury to Seaford wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be after stopping at Villi's for a couple of hot pasties, LOL. :o The Seaford was a really nice pub and had a great atmosphere. Nice to see everyone milling around outside and obviously either out from the first flight or just arriving for the second.

Nice to see some familiar faces and catch up with some old friends from the NE and B&G. Well like most I was a little uncertain as to how the day was going to pan out so I decided to be a little conservative and see whose gonna push who on our table. 8-)

We had a good mix with 3 ladies and 5 guys and the ladies were pushing the first few hands around between them. As the day progressed one lady was a standout from the rest of us coz she had played every damned hand except for one through the first 2 blinds.

Antes came into play and she was the big stack on our table and was still playing any 2 cards, raising or calling every hand through to the river. Some of the cards were so not playable so I asked her where she plays as she seemed to be on a mission, LOL??

She says, "It's my first season and I usually play at Smithfiels and Playford and I learnt on the internet"!!!!!!!!!! Then she asked, "why am I doing something wrong"??? Yeah, your winning.

So what happened to me and when you ask?? Well, I was patient and played my blinds and a couple of "why did I play them" hands but I also hit some good flops and played them well.

I started to create a table image and knocked a couple out and built my stack to $10k plus. Then the cards went a little cold for me for a while and the antes were taking their toll.

Garth announces we were 20 odd players from the combined cut off of 70 for the second flight and my cards are looking sick.

So, do I have a bad beat story??? I'll let you be the judge.

A few more hands and a couple of outs on the other tables with the Blinds at $400/$800 plus the antes and I'm BB with 4 10 off. Two callers including the SB and I thinking do I push allin with this crap or check? I check! :)

Flop comes 10, 8, 4, whoohoo!!! I hit 2 pair on the flop. SB bets $2k I look at his stack he's got around $9k left so I count my chips and I have $7,200 left. Did another stack count but this time I'm watching his body language and he looked a little edgy. I put him on Ace rag or maybe a pair. :?

I push my $7,200 in the pot and declared I'mm allin. Garth and Tim were standing next to our table and announces I'm allin. SB, Harry from Renmark (nice guy) calls with A, 10. Turn comes a 3 and Garth says the only way I can lose is if Harry rivers an ace or pairs the 8 on the board!!!!!! :o

Harry says, "good hand mate", as the the dealer puts out the burn card and turns the river card a friggin "8"!!! :o  :P

I just couldn't believe an 8 fell and put me out. I don't know who was shocked more as I looked at Garth, Tim and Harry. Wished him well still steaming a little and left the raised area devastated.

After licking my wounds :? I caught up with Air, Sou, Mark and Stacey who also had their stories to tell. I hung around to see who made the final 70. On one table there was Deano, Anthony, Michael G and Robbo from the Kingy. Decided it was time to go and and drop Stacey off on the way home.

Top day, top venue, top NPL team, very well ran as expected and I must say to the new boss ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you has some really big shoes to fill GF. ;)
Remember, It takes 8 muscles to smile :D and 40 to frown :(

Well this seasons final I lasted longer than the previous state final.

Congratulations to the winners and NPL staff for running an excellent event.

Being a Riverland player its a long journey to Seaford, the day started for me at Waikerie, 2 other players from Renmark and Lyrup came to meet up and travel with me another Waikerie player pulled out because of a big night Saturday.

We head off around 1030, we decided to take the scienic route via Sedan, Mt Torrens to Handorf and down through Echunga and McLaren Vale to Seaford arriving at the venue at 1.30.

I draw a table with 2 other riverlanders, we play each other often the table starts with 7 and we loose 1 player just after the 1st ante has started we loose our 2nd player soon after the 1st break, we have a player moved to our table who has a large stack, he immediatly starts bashing every hand only 2 players have enough chips to form some resistance to his aggressive play. One player is moved away from the table and then we loose a fellow riverlander, the table is broken up, during my time on my inital table I played about 5 hands winning only 2, blinds and ante's have eaten into my stack I have not much over 1200.

My new table starts out well I'm BB which I steal with an aggressive all-in, next hand I'm SB I fold that with out seeing the flop, I'm dealer this is the hand that knocks me out of the game, about 1.45 hours in the game
[see how that unfolded in the what killed you thread ]

My 2 travelling companions are still in at this Fred get knocked out on the last hand before the 2nd Break. Demo who was short stacked prior to the 2nd break survives and builds his stack to enable him to make the re combine.

Demo's stack move up and down untill around 11pm when he get knocked out at around 44th.

Demo, Fred and I decide to make the long journey back home on leaving we wish the 3 remaining riverland players the best of luck, congratulations to Matt in making 17th.

We arrive back in Waikerie at 1.30 Demo & Fred have about another hours travel.

All in all I enjoyed my visit to the State Final, well done again to the NPL crew.

PS What happened to the drink card draws ?
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
