Its a unique way of trying to put your opponent out of their zone.
I don't recommend doing it that. Too easy to backfire.
As for how antes work in a tournament.
Easiest way is as the dealer,
get the players to put the Antes in front of them, collect them, get the blinds out and deal the cards.
Makes it important not to splash them, otherwise someone is going to be paying the ante twice.

I think it's a great idea, last final went for sooooooooooo long. They have to consider the staff too.
