i really thought the standard of play would be better at a finals game, how wrong was I!
First table i was at i saw KK limp, AQ limp, JJ limp. I saw KK big raise pre-flop to lose to 10 5, when he hit 2 pair.
Maybe it was just my table.
I get moved, yay.
2nd table was the end of my day, after travelling almost an hour to get to seaford by the way, probably a short time as people from North would at least be travelling 1hr 20 mins.
Anyway. Blinds were 150/300 i had A10. The pot was at least 1600. Flop comes 10 4 2. I bet 1500 of my 3600. 1 caller.
Turn was an 8 i move all in, 2100. She calls leaving herself 1000 to play with and flips 55.
You guessed it river was a 5.
I probably would of cracked the sh its if she wasnt so good looking, i was in awe of the hand she called with to the river.
I guess top 5 doesnt really weed out the good from the bad.
Doesnt matter at the end of it, just thought i'd explain my bad beat story.
Just on another note:
My opinion is why have the finals all on 1 day.
Especially when you have it at a location like Seaford. People who live in the north or anywhere closer to city, if they do play in flight 1 and make it have to wait 5 hours to recombine.
If you decided to go home, by the time you get there you have to come back, and theres only so much you can do to support the venue, if you stick around. There's only so much i can lose on the pokies.
Perhaps next time have flight 1 on saturday and flight 2 sunday, with final table sunday night. I think that is ultimate fairness to everybody instead of just the people in the river land.
i guess if its a cost thing, perhaps use that money you spend on lanyards (if thats how its spelt) and give it to the staff.
How did you go at the season 2, 2008 State Finals?

Dug, I'm not sure if you were on the forum around the time of previous state finals but there was a fair amount of backlash when lanyards weren't given out one season.
People like to have something to show that they did make it.

Lost most of my chips right at the end of the 3rd level, having to fold on the turn which had actually given me top 2 pair. Was out at the end of level 4.

It was newly introduced - there were always going to be players constantly forgetting to do it. Same on my table, 2 blokes not posting it every hand.

Just heard that Des Herbert won, with Tony Ward coming 2nd.
But thats not official though, so I could be wrong.

I didn't go so great. Lasted just under 2 hours I think. Won a nice pot early on, but lack of cards and the introduction of antes whittled down my stacks because i couldn't justify playing any of the badness i was dealt so being patient and hoping to build a tight image was not working out for me. Blinds were getting bigger, which was no fun. Got down to 2,500, looked down at AJ suited and went all in - got 3 callers, 2 of them had A2, i was sitting sweet until a 2 rocked up. Nothing else came up to help me so I was out. Not happy!

That's really harsh Laura..
Especially with that being a great hand to play normally.
I do maintain the antes were great, they did seem to knock people out so much quicker and I guess it caused a few bad decisions in the end.
Maybe the antes lasting for 2 blind levels rather than 1 might have been a good thing, but maybe that isn't allowable.
Also...
Gotta ask..
What are lanyards?... oohhh I am so blonde at times. lol
