But just a quick note, it's all about baseline behaviour, if Ondie is always bouncing his feet and moving, what does it mean when his feet suddenly stop moving.

Sit at a table and watch someone who is tapping their feet or bouncing their leg, watch for their shoulders to "vibrate" or the clothing to move.

Get reading.

Why should Garth spend all his time justifying already proven FACTS that he has taken the time to learn and master and then get asked basic questions like these?

Not havin a go :P just perhaps do a bit of research in some book pages.

I don't recall trying to tell him he's wrong :) I'd love to read the book, care to buy it for me? Or perhaps you could fix the issue I seem to be having with the pokerbay.org where I've been trying to get hold of the very book you are referring to for about 2 weeks now.

This is EXACTLY the place to be asking those types of questions. We are very fortunate to have someone of Garths knowledge and ability and we'd be dumb for NOT asking.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Pete,
I am reading this fantastic book right now called "read em an reap"
it's written by Joe Navarro and Phil Helmuth, great read.
I would even go as far to say it is as good as if not better than Caro.

If anyone else is after a great tournament strategy book then I would say "Kill Everyone" by Lee Nelson, pretty indepth stuff but if you concentrate hard enough you will be able to get your head around it.

In answer to your questions though Pete,
You might be tapping your feet to a song, but (and this will be difficult) find out what happens when you look down at AA and somebody raises in front of you, or someone has just raised your bluff on the turn (Pete? Bluff? PLEEEEAAAAASSSEEEE!).

Anyway I lay odds that the song disappears from your head and your tapping pattern changes dramatically, I would even go as far to say that your feet might stop tapping or that your legs get involved as well. Rather than you tapping your feet, where the balls of feet are tapping, there might be a slight to the balls of your feet in contact with the ground at all times and your knee bouncing up and down.

In the end it is all about the baseline relaxed behaviour and when a person is put into a situation, how limbic responses alter the baseline behaviour.

In short yes, tells in relation to the legs and feet do apply to everyone.

Whilst I don't recommend looking underneath a table, check out movements in the shoulder or the clothes vibrating this gives a good indication of how much movement is being conducted underneath the table.

Cheers for the answer Garth, I would say that with respect to myself it's neither here nor there as to if I stop tapping/humming/whatever or not when I see a monster hand. That's likely to have something to do with alcohol though :) I can recall occasions where I've stopped whatever it was I was doing (for example, humming an infuriatingly catchy tune) and paying attention to what someone else was doing at the table, though I wouldn't have even looked at my cards yet. So I can see how it might apply in either direction.

I'm curious to know if alcohol dulls the emphasis of the subtle signals the body gives off and/or if it heightens some instead of others.

I'm a bit wary of placing too much stock in tells. Have heard some pros claim they are over-rated (but still useful) but what I would personally place more emphasis on is not knowing if my opponent was acting or not (giving off fake tells) which pretty much renders all that effort useless.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I've seen quite a few players who had a little too much to drink and they not only make the final table but win the tourney. So, I assume it may dull or nullify all or most of their natural body language signals.

Maybe even to the point where they only see or play their own cards and maybe the community cards and are somewhat oblivious to anyone else.

One example was at Para Hills where the guy had to be told it was his turn, the bet was so much and if they wanted to fold, call or raise.

Unfortunately the lass sitting to his left him had been sitting next to him from the previous table and then the final table. Unfortunately she lost to him in heads up. LOL.

Pete I bought this book for $29.99 @ Dymocks in Adelaide less than a year ago.

Navarro is an ex-FBI agent that specialises in body language.
