To be quite honest Shaun,
I might have played that same hand in a fairly similar way.
Read you as week or two overcards at least, cold call pre flop raise.
Flop comes down, tentative bet, "might have hit the board, but can push him off the pot if a scare card falls (such as an A or straightening cards or the board colouring up)."
Check and flat call the bet.
Turn Card. I hit (I NOW HAVE OUTS!!! YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!)
No scare card, but you now bet $4,000 into a pot of $18,000.
I am getting almost 5.5 to 1 pot odds on calling off $4,000 to win $22,000.
I strongly believe I need to catch another 3 or a 4 on the river to win so I have, in total, 5 outs, I am drawing at about 12%. But I also feel I can push you off the pot on the river if an A falls and I shove. So we will make it a possible 9 outs, thats 20%, I am getting 5.5 to 1 pot odds and I am a 5 to 1 Underdog. In this situation I am calling off 4,000. I might even shove at this stage as that would be the "correct" play (fold equity, etc.......)
By now you would be dubious about two flat calls and the aggression shown on just a three can go either two ways, you know I'm pushing (a 3 is not really a scare card, unless that board is showing possible straight) or you believe that it is quite possible I have hit a Blind special on that board.
Now I don't know whether your opponent had the same thoughts flow through your head, but I would just like to point out that sometimes poker is about: MAKING THE WRONG PLAYS AT THE RIGHT TIME. Every poker pro makes plays like that listed above and gets lucky now and again. Just the way it is.
A lot of people when I play think I am just mucking around, sometimes I am, but there are reasons for why I called your Cowboys down with that hand. I wanted to see how you would play a strong hand to the river and if I can push you off them and also whether my read was right.
There is so much more I could discuss about plays and the beauties of a rebuy addon system but I won;t.

OK so you got done. It's a single hand in poker mate. It happens to everyone. No point getting all stressed up about it.

maybe you shouldn't be raising with K9 when you are out of position and have just been moved to a table that you dont know. it works both ways mate
garth, i agree with the call on the turn and river, but i am not so sure about calling the raise preflop with 34off. even if my read had him on 2 weak overcards, id probably still be folding, but each to their own. cant afford to "get lucky" in a super turbo tourney

I was fairly in posistion...if dealer was in the pot, then i wouldnt of been in posistion, but he folded...so i was in best posistion when it came to small and big blind calling
Funny, im thinking more and more of the gawler players are starting to think...when u hit lowest pair and someone is raising...that ur in front

Re: WTF IS THIS KINDA PLAY...GRRRR!
Any connectors are a playable hand (some better than others obviously and if you choose to call a raise with it or not is personal taste shall we say).
Let's look at it from the other direction (mostly for my own amusement)...
What were you hoping to see happen with K 9?
If they're suited then you are really wanting a king high flush
If they aren't suited then you are limited to hitting your King or your 9 (or a combination of the two) or praying for the 3 cards in between that make the straight (and no flushes out there as well) or hoping that multiples of either come out on the board.
That's just on the flop.
So if you hit the 9, ok you have a decent kicker.
So if you hit the K, a 9 kicker isn't that flash really and even other marginal hands like K J are way in front. You are then pretty much relying solely on your single pair and hoping for the best.
Clearly K 9 isn't the only example of all of that but it's one that just makes me twitch a bit
In fairness, I'm led to believe that a suited K9 rates quite a bit higher than an unsuited K 9.

If u raise the way i did...K 9 can be read as a better hand than what it is by others...i didnt care what i was gonna make of the K 9...i rasied to pretty much tell that i had a decend hand...so on the flop, i was still gonna be agressive if i didnt hit, continuation bet to say i still have high cards...and when i didnt that, bonus i hit my King...how can anyone call with King high with a 4 kicker...cant possibly be seen as me having something worse than that...
