Not sure I follow Garth..
Especially if I was ahead pre-flop..
What would you call that?
Or rather what is a bad beat in that case?
I was of course behind on the flop, I see that. but
After chatting to Big Pete, I realise I should have bet 4x blind.
Other than that, how should I have played that differently?
bad beat

Re: bad beat
I was just talking about this with Caroline.... IMO the minimum raise was absolutely asking for the player with 55 to call/raise/whatever.
Having said that, it does seem from what she tells me that she was likely to be called even if she went allin preflop... which she could have done holding TT. Sometimes it just can't be helped, you do everything correctly and still get unlucky... <insert cliche here>.
Minimum raise though... horrible
**edit** further discussions with Caroline have revealed that she really needs to develop a case of green felt fever and stop being so damn nice all the time!

Re: bad beat
Caroline: A bad beat could best be described as being massively ahead on the flop (and in some cases even the turn) and then losing because your opponent hits the few cards he needs to win. Runner runner flush when you have trips on the flop, for example.
It would have been a horrible bad beat for the player with quad 5s if you hit quad 10s on the turn, or river.

Apart from raising higher preflop, there was nothing you could do to save yourself. You were screwed on the flop.
Unless you are an EXCELLENT player and can put your opponent on pocket 5s, there is no way anyone is going to fold on that flop with those cards.

Re: bad beat
yep, that's exactly right.
from what you told me Caroline your only chance there was to raise decently preflop in order to force the other players to actually think about their hand... if they choose not to think or just don't have that ability (muahah) then there's nothing you can do.
