Season 3, and the changes it brings with it!!!!

Postby Garth Kay » Sun May 25, 2008 6:36 pm

Season 3 commences with a bang!

Well Season 3 of 2008 begins tomorrow and there are a few changes and inclusions to the NPL competition that you all need to be made aware of.

New Promotions!

First of SkyCity is now sponsoring a new promotion: “Player of the Week”, you will notice a new inclusion to the leaderboards page and this is it.
The Player of the Week leaderboard will display those members who have played three games or more and will be sorted via the most points scored in any week from Monday to Sunday.
At the end of each week the top 10 on the leaderboard will win entries into SkyCity’s Poker Zone regular tournaments.

The leader at the end of the week will gain entry into the PokerZone monthly challenge, valued at $450, as well as having their player profile displayed on the website in the ultimate claim to fame!

The prizes are as follows:
1st $450 Poker Zone Challenge 2nd $150 Saturday Deep-stack entry
3rd $65 Wednesday Night Freeze-out Entry
4th $65 Wednesday Night Freeze-out Entry
5th $45 Tuesday Night Entry
6th $45 Tuesday Night Entry
7th $45 Tuesday Night Entry
8th $45 Tuesday Night Entry
9th $45 Tuesday Night Entry
10th $45 Tuesday Night Entry

For more details on SkyCity’s Poker Zone tournaments and structures, and what SkyCity offers poker players, please visit; http://www.skycityadelaide.com.au and head to the Poker Zone section.

In the final 4 weeks of this season we will again run with the very popular SkyCity Adelaide Championships Main event Satellite series. All tournament winners in this four week period will qualify for one of four tournaments, to be conducted in Marble Hall, and the winner of each Satellite tournament will walk away with a Main Event seat valued at over $3,000 each.

All of these promotions will run in conjunction with the regular NPL promotions, it’s just another way we wish to reward our loyal players. This season alone will see almost $65,000 in prizes and cash given away to SA players.

Poker Passports in Season 3!!!!

Another major change to be aware of is the new system for poker passports. We have been listening to our poker players and have revised this system and decided to create a rebuy add on system; that will be of great use to venue supporters and skilled poker players alike.

Each player will still receive two passports but each passport will be designated by a number (1 and 2) Passport 1 will strictly be a rebuy card for $1,000, but passport 2 will be a rebuy/add on card, this passport can still be redeemed in the first two blind levels for $1,000, but if you make it to the first break it will be used as an add on and will be redeemed for $2,000 in chips!!!!!

To redeem Passport 2 you must first complete passport 1 and have that redeemed, so if you make it to the first break with two completed passports you will receive $3,000 in chips. Certainly a handy amount to have at this stage of the game!!!

Just a few of the changes we are making in season 3! We are the biggest and best and will continue to adapt and improve the product for the loyal NPL members out there!

P.S: We ares still revising tournament structures, some of you may know we have trialled a few different things around the state. Changes will not be made until season 4!

AWESOME.

Question: There was talk before that this "Player Of The Week" idea would be for metro players only. Is it for a few regions only, or is this a statewide policy?

Great to see the SkyCity championships back again (they always bring in more runners ;) ). And I like the passport changes too, more chips is always a good thing :P

Hi Aaron,
It is statewide, but as you can see it's mechanics definitely favour those in Metro regions as they have, generally, a larger selection of games with higher numbers than most regional centres.

Cheers for getting back to me. Good to hear its statewide.

Yeah, obviously someone that finishes first at Roulette's with 120 players (130 points) and a few 15th's is going to beat a 1st, 2nd and a 1st in Gawler, or the south, but that's just the way things are.

Hey All,

These changes sound awesome to say the least - well done garth.

I just wanted to say my bit about the tournament structure that was trialled at the kingsford on friday night, where a 400/800 blind level was added.

i.e the blinds were

25/50 15 min
50/100 15 min
100/200 15 min
BREAK
200/400 15 min
300/600 15 min
400/800 15 min
BREAK

and so on

i found that this extra blind level was really good, as i was short stacked (around 3K) when this level came around, and it allowed my to pick my spot a bit better. i won the pot i made my move on, and i finished 10th.

i am not sure what everyone else thought, but i liked the structure, and along with a few extra chips, i think it will definitely be good.

perhaps one downside is that in level 2, we had a couple of all-ins and a side pot. even though i (with help from des who did superbly i might add) worked out the side pots fairly quickly, it meant that we didn't get a whole round of the table in level 2 because it was only 15 min and not 20.

but thats pretty minor, and that happens regularly at higher levels anyway, so its not really an issue.

also, bring on extra chips that should be awesome!! (and a 400/800 level and me winning sky city champs and making and winning the state finals and the deepstack and the regional finals!)

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Not too sure about this - methinks you might get a little too loose now you've got a little protection....

Choice - more chips for us all!

benny the cunt: Was there any additional levels once the blinds had passed 1k? ie. a 4k/8k?

Garth and NPL/Skycity: Good work on the promos - very interesting!

nope the rest of the tourney was the same.

i was biased in my opinion of this level, because i only had about 3K when this level came around, and it allowed me to play for a while longer until i got a good hand - i ended up 9th so that was good.
