its the FFA (Football Federation of Australia), but its also the AFL (Australian Football League), not the AARFL (Australian Australian-Rules Football League) or something like that
they are both football, just like league and union are both rugby (also footy if u are in NSW or QLD), and to the masses in Australia, the world game is called soccer, but really, who cares, as long as everyone knows what game you are talking about!

Re: Name the Player Game
Wrong.
You are referring to the governing body in the country. I was referring to what they are actually registered as ie what the name of the sport is in this country.
If you call it something different, you are wrong or maybe just a little misguided
.
Even fox sports can get it right.

Re: Name the Player Game
Pete and others, if Wikipedia is to be believed, then you are WHOLEHEARTEDLY WRONG!!!!!!!!!
THE PROPER NAME IS ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL AND IS A FOOTBALL VARIANT
put that in your pipe and smoke it
THE PROPER NAME IS ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL AND IS A FOOTBALL VARIANT
Wikipedia wrote:FIFA, the sport's world governing body, defines the sport they govern as association football in their statutes
Wikipedia wrote:Association football, commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players, and is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world. It is a football variant
Wikipedia wrote:The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863, and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of the word "association", often credited to former England captain Charles Wreford-Brown
Today the sport is generally known simply as football in countries where it is the most popular football code. In countries where other codes are more popular, the sport is more commonly referred to as soccer, and indeed is referred to as such in the official names of the governing bodies in the United States and Canada. FIFA, the sport's world governing body, defines the sport they govern as association football in their statutes,[46] but the term most commonly used by FIFA and the International Olympic Committee is football.

Re: Name the Player Game
forget about the soccer bit, fair enough not wanting to call it that, because thats just slang.
but what about the proper term "Association Football"
very similar to "Australian Rules Football" don't you think?
i am not sure you can argue with that pete
so they are both rightfully called football. aussie rules doesn't have to be called australian football, it is just football also.
