Rcon,

if you were eating lots of lean meat and salads as well as vegetables then this is excellent, but this is not the ATKINS diet and in fact many fruit and veggies are a good source of complex carbohydrates which are often low GI and release energy over a long period of the day. (so u werent on a low carb diet at all). Cutting out simple carbohydrates such as sugar and some breads is beneficial.

So basically you were on the Atkins breakfast ;) If by day you eat lots of lean meat and plenty of fruit and vegies then this is exaclty what the CSIRO diet is made up of.

And, you hit the nail on the head with your total kilojoule input versus output. In its simplest form we can imagine a set of scales, if more goes in than out then we get fat, if more goes out than in we get skinny.

The reason why weight loss is much harder to achieve with a diet that is higher in fat is each fat molecule is turned into many more molecules of ATP (energy) by the body compared to each carbohydrate molecule. Therefore, the same amount of fatty food actually has many more kilojoules than the same amount of low fat food. (which im sure u knew)

ANSWER: low fat diet high in complex carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables and lots of exercise = weight loss.

seems too simple to be true really, but for most its the lots of exercise that outs them off.

Good luck with your weight loss, it seems that you are experiencing some success so i congratulate you. You obviously have the mental toughness to stick it out unlike many others.

Stick to the lean meat and salads, and for breakfast, buy lean bacon, poach your egg and eat it on wholemeal toast and it will be even better ;) good luck!

Ohhh if only we could do that! Just transfer excess weight to someone who really needs it!

I can think of a few non-hamburger eating vegos that could benefit from this :)
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
