It would've set me up

Ok, so I'm sitting on 1300 after cashing one card, and I'm dealt J9 off.

50/100 blinds, I call.

#1 calls, #2 raises to 400. #3 calls, SB goes all in for 250 (Foti) BB calls. I sit and think for a moment, and as I am doing so, #1 calls. So I'm thinking "Well good pot odds here" so I called.

Flop is 8 10 Q.. woo hoo!

So I check, cos I'm thinking we could knock Foti out.

#2 goes all in for about another 1900, #3 calls. BB folds, I (obviously) call), and #1 folds.

#2 turns over KK, #3 KQ, can't remember Foti's hand.

I'm looking quite good.

Turn 8

River 8

Ouch.

i cant quite see from your picture what position your in, but it sounds like you played J9 off from UTG with a stack of 1300, 1st mistake i reckon :(

I was next to UTG. I'm in red.

For 100, I'm playing J9.

Neither
I still had both my cards unclaimed.
It was in the $50 - $100 blinds

I cashed in one and then cashed in the other after the break.

I should have said that... sorry..

I love that I started a trend

All bad beat descriptions should be in the above manner.

Ok, calling the 100 isn't so bad, with 1300 and a card left, you were hoping to see a cheap flop, yes? J 9 offsuit is weak, but I've seen worse calls.

Personally, if I had called the 100 (I would've folded it straight away) I'd fold to the 400 raise. That leaves you with 900 if you don't hit the flop, which isn't much. And J 9 is so weak, especially against 5 other runners. Screw pot odds.

Saying that, that runner runner house was b*llsh*t.

correct me if im wrong, but sometimes 'pot odds' are used as an excuse for players to call a rasier with bad cards. There is always an opportunity to fold bad cards, regardless of pot odds.

I think calling the raise with J9 was a mistake, especially as you were first to act for subsequent betting. I mean even if you had hit top pair 9's, you still can't be sure where your hand is. imagine if the flop comes 9 5 2, you bet 300 and the initial raiser pushes over the top. then what do you do?

J9 is a folding hand in first position, always in my opinion (especially with 8 on a table. short handed changes it of course)

I think the person calling out of turn effectively made the decision for Mr Bacon, suddenly he thought he had reasonable enough odds to call.

The flop was brilliant for him which only made it worse when the bad luck came.

I can't really blame Bacon for calling, but he should blame the person who called out of turn for influencing his decision :)
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
