Ahh, so it was the Old Spot in Gawler that changed its stamp policy.

Re: Pre-paying for drinks to get stamped up
it was the one in gawler luke (i will not share my thoughts on the salisbury one)
they have gone back to the standard 1 for a schooner, 2 for a pint, (2 for a pint of softie as well)
i can completely understand their decision, as they would have been making no money the other way - it costs a lot to host NPL
but they were very receptive of my ideas, which i am happy about.
so get down there everyone, 14 bucks for 4 pints of coke still gets u stamped up - pretty good.
still better than most places around - no reason to stop going there

When you want another drink you either give it to the table waitress or take it to the bar yourself and all they need to do is cross off what you have each time.
Problem solved
Your cards are already stamped up,
Your till receipt is your record for getting another drink,
Which solves having to give the waitress money at the table,
This is undoubtably the best system.
It has the date, the drinks purchased and can't be forged.

Re: Pre-paying for drinks to get stamped up
So long as the receipts are only being given out to people who pre-order its going to be an easy system.
Scenario:
I purchase Meal and a round of drinks.
I ask for a receipt
I get a receipt and it shows 2 meals, 2 beers
I consume such
I play some poker
I head back to the bar and ask for my two drinks and show my receipt as evidence that I'm owed such.
This system still puts an onus on the bar staff to make sure that people are only getting what they paid for. And you know that there would be people who abuse this system. Sure, you can have the bar staff write on the receipt that X, Y and Z have been taken, but you're going to have to either mark every recipt that comes out or people are going to say
"Oh, you just forgot to mark this one - gimme my drinks"
I really like being able to pay for my drinks first, but I usually play venues with small numbers 35 -55 and its not such an issue. I can see how this would be a big issue for the bigger venues.
