i think you can allow a bit if discretion when invoking these rules - mucking cards when a player is nearly back at their seat is gonna ruffle some feathers, but to the same extent, the game should not be held up at all.

if the player is at the bar, saying hold on 30 secs while i get this drink, then muck his cards definitely

EXACTLY........... most problems occur because we want to bend the rules a little bit here, and a little bit there, and sooner or later it becomes an arguement.

Don't create GREY areas by bending the rules or interpretting them differently. Use the KISS RULE .... Keep It Simple Stupid and let the Punters know it's their responsability to keep to the rules.

A lot of out TD's do already announce this rule in their opening spiels. Then again a lot of the regular players out their do not feel the need to listen to this opening spiel as they have heard it often enough.
But there is always some new addition or information we wish to pass to players and we do it for the opening spiel and then some time later it's the same thing "I never heard of the rule", "I didn't know anything about this promotion", "Really?? BG is holding regional finals? Why wasn't I told?" etc.... etc....

This rule is fairly simple, and it is here for one reason: speed up the game and stamp out the reasons for many delays.

I have told many people, that have emailed me or rang me to complain about so and so as a TD mucked my hand when I went to the bar or toilet and I was in sight of the table, that if you are leaving the table; then just treat it as if you are skipping a hand.

You are going to miss that hand so always try to leave when you are in middle position.

I hate time wasters.

I hate the ones who ponder on calling when you know all along they are gonna fold due to the size of a bet and normally if they had a hand they call ASAP.

Yet they want to dramatise their play as if they had a hand, when really all they are doing is winding down the clock.

Unfortunately they are usually doing it so some poor bugga who is short stacked and is either on the small blind and or gets hit with the new and larger blinds that forces them into an allin situation.

some people are genuinely thinking, and trying to put the opponent on a hand, and this is fine.

but some people do it because they saw those people on the telly do it, so it makes me look like i know what im doing - these people are really annoying.

one thing to do - as soon as they are to act, call time straight away. this still gives them a minute to act, but they will soon get the message and speed their play up.

Calling time straight away is just as bad benny the cunt.

Some may even say it's downright rude <gasp!>

Pretty sure that everyone gets what is very loosely referred to as a 'reasonable amount of time' to make a decision before the clock nazis start stealing oxygen lol
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
