Dry pot my pot if I have a hand especially after the flop. I prefer heads up or milk some more from remaining live player. No science in it for me just enjoy winning LOL.

Re: Checking down a dry side pot......
Last night I copped a lot of flack for min. betting into a $600 side pot. Blinds were 300/600.
We had 1 person ALL-IN and 2 live runners including myself. I had pocket 6's and didn't hit on the flop. Flop was mainly low cards, so I didn't want to see any more cards with my marginal hand. I did a minimum bet of $600 to see where I was in the hand and potentially pickup the side pot then and there, expecting the other player to have 2 overs but not hit.
The way I see it, poker isn't a team sport. At that stage of the tourney, 1 less player makes very little difference. I'm doing everything I can to get the most chips, even if it is only a $600 side pot. I don't think I should have to risk any potential win to get rid of a player if I don't need to.
Very occassionally I'll bluff into a larger side pot, to make the table think that I bluff more frequently - and then play tighter after. Again, I don't think I have to check down, just for the benefit of everyone else. I normally play for the win, not just to limp into the points.
Cheers

That's not a dry side pot.. if you can win chips that the all-in isn't entitled to, then bet away.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

Re: Checking down a dry side pot......
I bet into a dry side pot at the Casino the other night. It was a $45 skittles event.
One player was all in pre flop, and called by the SB and me. I had Aces.
I checked the flop after the other guy did. Turned an Ace. We both checked.
Rivered an ace - giving me quads. I min bet and he folded. To me, who cares - nothing wrong with that. the aim (in theory) of checking down the board with an allin runner is to give the most chance of knocking them out.
Well, they were out so that wasn't something to worry about! I had acheved one aim - knock the player out - and was trying for the other aim, of getting more money!!

Re: Checking down a dry side pot......
Quads! Awesome. We had quads twice last night at my home game.
I rivered quads with A 10, board J, 10, 10, J, 10. Sucks, he didn't have a J
And then later on Dave FLOPPED quads. Pocket 6s, board 6, 6, 4, 9, 8. He stole a carpload of chips from Stevo and his pocket 10s

I think when you have the nuts its a different story.
I think what annoys some is when somebody bets big into a dry side pot with a medium hand, like middle pair, gets the other live player to fold say top pair low kicker, and the all in player ends up winning with a slightly better middle range hand (hope that makes sense).
If you have the nuts, then you already know for sure that the player is knocked out, so bet away...
