Saints had all year to extend Lyon's contract.

I don't blame Lyon for leaving [and I reckon it's gonna be the best outcome for both parties anyway].

Saints probably thought no one would take him on and probably could negotiate a cheaper contract deal since he would have no other options and desperate to secure himself financially.

Now they have egg on their faces and probably only in contention to get the 3rd or 4th best coach currently available.

Saints always seem to be able to stuff it up!!!

I heard they were only going to offer him 2 years, then recently upped it to 4 years but on the same money either way.

A coach leaving under his circumstances seems reasonable until you add in the fact he was talking to Freo on his own without his management knowing, the same people who manage Mark Harvey who thought he had a job until he went into a meeting and was told "sorry Mark, got someone better lined up lulz."

Feel sorry for Mark and wish it could have been handled better.

I totally agree that Freo has shown no respect to Mark Harvey.

Lyon mentioned today that he didn't tell his management group due to conflict of interest and he hired some other legal firm to negotiate for him which seems fair enough in the circumstances.

It would look worse if Craig Kelly rings Mark Harvey and tells him that he lost his job to someone else he managed.

Again, if the Saints really wanted Lyon, they should have signed him earlier and I'm sure it would have been for less money than they offered him yesterday.

Rumours are Lyon wanted to quit in pre-season after the NZ problems, and then again when Pelchen was appointed at the Stains.

Seems he was never staying for 2012.
