hey guys
been playing npl for a while but have just recently noticed that people are really overplaying the ace rag hand, i dont know if its just my opposition lately but ive seen many a people call a big raise pre-flop with A-5 off etc etc and also calling all in if they hit that ace on the flop, with any kicker as low as a 3 or a 4
sometimes it works but nearly everytime they get crushed, how can we educate the people? giving people advice is also difficult when theres always a smart ass saying, "let him play what he wants etc"
opinions on this?

It's not the rag Steve. It's the Ace.
The other card is irrelevant.

What are you raising big with pre-flop? Maybe the player thinks they have a read on you, and is calling cos they think they are in front.
Monday, I called all-in with A3, with only a gun shot straight draw (or runner runner flush), because I felt I was in front with my Ace high against the erractic bettor. Turns out I was right, and to rub it in I hit my straight on the flop, and the flush on the river.
And if someone thinks they are in front, when they aren't, as Des says I want them calling.

Maybe they do want educating, but maybe they don't - if you've seen the same person make the same, er, shall we say, ambitious, call several times and get cut up about it, perhaps the way to approach it would be to pull them aside at the bar in a break and explain to them that perhaps it isn't the best move in the world. Wow that sentence just went on and on.
Anyway, I know that I would have much prefered someone to approach me during a break than confront me over the table when I first started. But I'd also only approach people whom I'd seen make the same move a couple of times and get frustrated each time about it. I know that there are times when I'm not fussed if I lose a hand or win - lose I go home having had a decent night already, win I double up and can perhaps make a play for some points etc. I'm not out to try and win each and everytime I play - sometimes I'm there for a drink, a laugh and then come home, esp if early cards haven't seen my stack grow.

When he's bluffing, of course he's dying when I call. But he was probably too drunk to notice. And he outlasted me anyway.
That was justice I guess.
