Worst hand in poker

Postby andy_thomas » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:54 am

has to be AK, i'm not sure i've ever won with it.

final table last night, blinds 3k/6k, i'm big blind, i think one person called + small blind called, i went all in with an 11k raise, one person folds, small blind calls.

small blind had pocket 10s

needless to say, darren turned over the worst cards i've ever seen in my life (though, i didn't see the river, but it almost sounded like i won :P)

I find people misplay AK a lot. They treat it like a pocket pair. When infact it is just a drawing hand.

I think your play was the right one... both players showed weakness. Shame that the SB was trapping you.

Alternatively you could have seen the flop and then get away from it.

I treat AK as a gd starting hand. should never over play it 90% of the time you will go down with it,getting beaten by a small pair.
What do you mean, thats unrelated!

You may have heard us (at the Modbury) call it Anna Kournakova - looks GREAT but rarely wins.

I find you can raise fairly large with it and still be confident if you get called - but maybe drop it if you get re-raised. It's a hand that has heaps of really good possibilities but you may as well ignore some of those because the odds of getting them are extremely small.

My success with this hand is probably 50/50.
My success with pocket aces is 100% (not online!)
My success with pocket kings is around 90+%

Quite the difference.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

And my success with AK in my hand probably outweighs my success with KK. Stupid KK.

But I agree... even with a dead flop for AK, some people just do not like to lay it down because it's AK.. even in the face of a large raise.
Will dance for your chips!

well, good to see i learnt my lesson! 14 runners left last night, AK, blinds were .5k/1k, had 2 callers, i was small blind, went all in with 6k, BB and other 2 callers called.

flop was 4 Q 4, BB checks, 1 goes all in for another 6k, 2 calls, BB calls (i.e. i'm well and truly fooked)

i turn over AK
BB turns over AJ
1 turns over QQ (full house on flop)
2 turns over 10 10

turn was a 10
river was a 2

i'm folding the next AK i get. even if i'm big blind, i'm folding the bastards!

In that situation with two callers behind you it may be worth just checking, attractive as those blinds are you are still drawing for six outs. And in any pub poker league shoving pre flop or even on the flop doesn't work often.
A lot of people can't seem to lay down big aces or even pocket pairs, with overcards on the board.
But I would like to say I was down to the final table in a $10 tourney last night. I was UTG with [ah] [kh] I limped. Two callers in middle position. Dealer button raises 4x BB. Blinds fold and I decide to push, move all in. Callers fold and DB calls, showing [js] [jd]
Flop:
[qh] [10d] [jc]

Not a bad flop, I've hit broadway so I'm screaming for the board to not pair.

Unfortunately the turn brings:

[jh]

Wow four of a kind not often you see that. One out for me now.

And the river is:

[10h]

Holy $%#! I just sucked out on four of a kind with a one outer on the river.

[10h] [jh] [qh] [kh] [ah]

to beat

[jh] [jc] [js] [jd]

I LOVE POKER!

Alternatively, call the 500, check the flop as it didn't hit you. Fold to the bet from either the QQ or 1010 and have about 5k for your next hand.
