How can you say the average is one hand every 20, when there's 9 people on the table? You're saying that on average, no one wins a hand 11 hands out of every 20?

here is some Bruce reasoning.... actual technical facts approximated.

if you play any two cards in a nine player table the likelyhood that you hit a pair on the flop is something like one in 15 so for fifteen hands you could not even hit a pair to play the any two cards let alone win with a said hit pair .

so most antes are 10% of the BB that means you lose a BB every ten hands if you play two rounds of the nine player table == 18 hands you lose nearly 2 two BBs ..

in final stages of most 888pl the blind levels are 10/12 mins if you equate 2mins to a self dealt hand that means in two blind levels you at best get 12/15 hands dealt .

as per previous advice you are lucky if you get any two cards that may hit [ a piar] to play/win so on a good night in half and hour later stages when antes apply you may get say 2-3 hands that hit a pair or some thing even less likely to hit a winning hand. against the other nine players..

I know it no 'fun' to get blinded away and bluffing is part of poker .. but having to put up an ante your money to play a hand that is likey to win in say 1/20 seems a bit unfair...specially if they are there to quicken the finish the game/night..

so I'm Anti antes

:geek: : knowing when to fold em [ not play any two cards and obey one of the golden rules for poker playing = dont play too many hands is part of my game .. 8-) 8-) 8-) ..17% ie 17/100 is a tight player ???
= 2-3hands/ 20 hands when you at least have a look

in a 888pl game start 7-30 pm till 11-00pm less breaks = 2 .75 hrs playing time [ 165 mins ] at say 1.5 mins self dealt = 106 hands.

so do you play more than 17 hands a night ????

I tried this one night I took note of every hand I played/folded ala the Gus Hanson Book.. in the said 80 hands I hit cards twice might have been thrice that would have won the hand
suppose I'll be bluffing more.....

That is one way of looking at it Bruce.

If you play too defensive out of your BB and SB and the button, then you are going to be losing more chips at the table than you would if you did play ABC poker.

If you really want to go into length, you should look at starting hands vs position on the table, you will be able to accumulate more chips against solid regulars as they will lay down their marginal holdings when they are OOP. And the 1 in 15 for any two cards hits, means the check from them to the bet by you allows you to also pick up orphaned pots. Simple play but does help.

Factor this into the later stages of the tournament where there is an extra 2 BB in the pot thanks to the Ante's, means you are increasing your chip stack by 3-4 bb for a simple button raise. If they do go the flop and check to you, a simple lead out of 3/4 pot means you are now picking up a pot of 10bb for 5bb.
