after spending half of the night last night building the system, i put the windows disk in and tried to install windows, and at the installation hangs at the setup splash screen.

i think it has something to do with the RAM - the ram isn't being recognised correctly atm.

i am going to update the bios tonight, and if that fails, i think i have to bugger around with the timing settings in the bios

That's why I pay Leader $65 to put it together :)

Just to avoid the issues, and they can work it out!

If you pay someone to do it for you, I'll have zero respect for you :)

You checked your mb can handle the default timing settings for the RAM? There's often an approved list you can view, same place you get updates for the mb from.

If it's not on the approved list then a BIOS update may well address that, but it will say in the info for the update what it does.

Is you power supply beefy enough? From memory you were sticking with your old one. It may pay to check it's actually able to provide more than is needed.

i ended up getting a new PSU, kept my old system as a whole so i can sell it. new power supply is 750W. should be plenty.

bios was 2 versions behind, so i put the new version on there, and it didn't solve the problem.

the ram is supposed to run at 200MHz, but for some reason the mobo thinks it runs at 1000. it also sends 1.5V to it when the ram specs say it wants 1.65.

i tried changing all of the timing settings, frequencies and voltages in the bios via the overclocking system, but when i did that, it said there was an error.

so my suspiscions are that the ram is not compatible with my mobo.

problem now is that i dont really want to go buy new ram to stick in there just in case the ram wasn't at fault and it was something else.

i ended up doing a memtest from a bootable ISO, and i found that the ram was faulty. and surprisingly MSY were really good about exchanging it as well (they did their own memtest in store)

so now my new PC is built!

now my base score for the computer is 7.6 :D
