Ok my husband is playing a qualifier and is dealt pocket aces. We have 270 players left and the top 250 progress he is sitting around 160 after out lasting over 9000 players. He goes whoop whoop, I scream fold. Could you or would you do the same? To me it was pretty standard and have done this before in a qualifier when we were close to money. My reasoning given the level of play and the fact that we only need to make top 250 there is no reason to play a hand. My husband folds with tears in his eyes and makes it through to the next round ( he would have won the hand but I dont thin that is the point).

with only 17bb i would be definitely open shoving here.
with 20 players left, the play will really slow down, and it could be a few orbits before the bubble actually bursts.
if we were on the stone bubble i would be folding this though, but you really dont want the blinds to pass you a couple of times and be down below that 10 bb mark.

Re: could you fold pocket aces....Pre flop
The play was really really spazzy on just about every table i saw. Rather than slowing down it was heating up with the big stacks being bullies trying to see who could push who around the most. On top of that I think that there were at least 10 players of the remaining 20 who were sitters and were so short stacked they were being anted out. Also I am fairly sure that our stack is strong enough to out last 20 players. We are not looking to win here just out last another 20 players.
side note though I was glad when the bubble burst about 8 hands later as I think my husband would have never spoken to me if he did not make it

fair enough, i dont think its horrible to fold here. surprised the bubble burst so quick, i suppose there is still lots of players left.

Re: could you fold pocket aces....Pre flop
It was a free roll to another tournament in which $100 is first prize hence the spazzy play. Once we reached 250 the game ended and each player got there entry. My husband had pushed all in previously about 15 minutes prior in mid position first to act with pocket 10's for about 15 bb. He got 2 callers 1 with 10 7 o and the other with 6 3 o. He had been playing really tight aggressive so not sure why they called when they both had only mid stack ( only 1 of them made it through to the top 250)

Re: could you fold pocket aces....Pre flop
so for winning this satellite you get entry into another small stakes tourney? i.e the actual prize isn't really worth much.
i think a fold is warranted now. well played.

Re: could you fold pocket aces....Pre flop
Yeah he is playing the free rolls trying to build up a bankroll. I am hoping he may learn something along the way too. His favorite move at the moment is to click the pot button and then add a bit for "GST". Not sure if he is just doing it to upset me though as he knows I hate pot size bets and adding a bit more just makes it worse.
