LOL I can just imagine Gayle being a bad ass shady poker player in one of these back alley poker rooms.

He is way out of line Gayle. He shouldn't really be concerned about what you do in your spare time although I suspect that your love for poker has been communicated with your workmates. I too have done this in the past and as I have learned it is probably best to not mention things like playing poker for 24 hours straight, or winning $1000 or going to Adelaide for a poker tournie with Shane Warne because some people might jump to the conclusion you are a problem gambler.

I think you're like me in that you want to avoid confrontation where possible. Just continue doing what you do (shipping online tournies :) ) and don't talk too much about you spend your spare time with your colleagues. That's what we are for on the forum!

Thanks everyone I feel a lot better now than what I did early I was just so angry. I think Trishan is right. I do talk about my poker a lot when I am doing my old job as it is a very mundane and can be extremely boring. I have taught a couple how to play and they now play more in venue than I do ( I am down to once a week if I am lucky). Being a small town as well a lot of people who work there also play poker through no influence of mine which we often talk about also. J Mack I have asked for an annual leave on more than one occasion and when asked why have been honest and said I have a poker tournament and may be tired the next day ( perhaps next time I should lie and say I am staying home and cleaning). No previous boss has ever declined this request and most have just wished me luck. When this boss declined my request I still went to the tournament and was at work the next day early as usual giving 100%.

We are growing again as a company and I think that it is best if i bite my tongue so I am not seen as the trouble maker overlooked for any future opportunities. As a company we have been to the brink and back and we are just starting to get a positive vibe going again. I know that it is essential that we keep this going to survive and with out being big headed know that I have really been a big part of helping a lot of people get through this tough period. I am not going to let some lazy, opinionated little man push me around and bring me down. Majority of people I work with are the best people you will ever work with and until recently I thought this of this manager.

Again thank you for all of your advice and support as I was really down earlier. You are all such a wonderfully supportive bunch and awesome poker players. What a great combination!

Brett, IMO she doesn't have to explain herself. Already cutting back on poker is good enough, bottom line if it doesn't affect your work output, then its not an issue. You could be doing ANYTHING (legal). Its in your own time, your decisions.

Your boss only has an issue if its affecting your work. I'm with benny the cunt, I'd probably file a complaint.

Again thank you all for your advice. I have had the night to sleep on it and feeling clearer today. I think the part that really got to me was that he choose to focus on my punctuality and that poker was affecting this. If he has picked any other part of my performance I probably would not have taken it so bad but punctuality when I have been early all of my life i don't think so. So now I think I will just bite my tongue and keep doing what I want to do in my"private" time until it does affect my work. I am my own harshest critic so I will know when that occurs.

Maybe just stop telling them about the five figure scores online, and when the 888pl final is on just say you are visiting friends in Melbourne for the weekend and won't be in Monday :D

I would still mention it to your union rep with an explanation that you dont want any further action to take place, but so that at least there is a record of this happening. Who knows, this person may have a history of workplace bullying. Maybe he's just a misogynist and a bully? If everyone keeps it to themselves then nothing will ever be done about it.

After all, why pay union fees if you're not going to use their services?

You are certainly not over reacting Gayle. What you do in your own time is your business. Is there any possibility that the work in your old department has not been done as efficiently since you went to the new position? With all the comments on how well you have done the new job the green eyed monster may be around. It may be obvious now who really does the work.

The object of the exercise seems to have been to belittle you in front of your fellow workers so I wonder at the real motive.

Instead of leaping straight for the union (seriously, wtf people?) how about you go and see your workplace HR dept?

(I'm assuming it has one).

That would be the best place to start any formal processes that you need to be seen to be doing.

Or, if you would prefer another job anyway, deck the twat.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I am too wondering what his real reason is for doing this to you. Does he have a motive for it. Also maybe he is a religious nut and does not believe in gambling? You have every right to be mad and hurt, i would be too. Don't let this go, make sure the people that need to know about this are informed. Your time is private and you can do what ever you like out of work ours. It is clearly a power play to make himself look good. I am sure the staff were not thinking that you were bad, they were most likely thinking What a moron he was. He is the one with the problem Not you.
