Zonal defending dominates a lot of sports these days because a well drilled and disciplined zonal defence can be greater than the sum of its parts, giving a less skillful team a chance stopping a better team.

Some people will find this type of tactic 'ugly' to watch but until coaches are judged on the 'prettiness' of their game play rather than the win column then ugly wins will be worth more than pretty losses.

biggest diference in afl from 1960 to 2010

1960 = 4 stat categories

2010 = 5000 irrelevent and usless stat categories

nfl is the master of the useless stats :P

i agree though, some aren't needed. some like inside 50s are useful, and stats like hard ball gets were needed due to the increase in cheap possessions in order to keep hold of the ball.

NRL doesn't keep stats, cos no-one can count above 5
