the highest card gets the dealer button. if there are 2 or more of the same card, then the first person who is dealt that card gets the button.

I was at a challenge final table last week, and the td dealt 2 players with the same card ( a queen )
he then dealt a second card to both players with the queen and the highest second card got the button.
I had never seen that before

meh i wouldnt' be fussed if it was like that either.

i dont think it really matters that much, its not like its part of the rules of poker or anything. just need to find a way of getting a dealer quickly and randomly

Having said this also.. I pose another question.

As a matter of precedence, shouldn't the entire table be given one card, then if 2 aces are dealt, then should suit come into it, or should another card be given?

Also isn't spades the top of the suits? then hearts, clubs then diamonds?

Maybe this isn't such a basic question.

Spades does take preference when high carding for dealer on-line though (888poker)....

The correct message for finding a dealer is thus:

Every player receives one card.
The player to be dealt the highest card will be the dealer.

If two or more people have a card of the same value then it is decided on by suits:

Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs

In 888PL (so players don't get confused) we simply do first ace or first highest card on the table.

Yeah, much easier to just go with first one is dealer, that's why 888pl do it.

How could you have missed how the most basic part of the game?

No This is beginners section ,Thats why I have posted these questions . For those that have never played a live game before .

See all the other Topics here calculating outs & pot odds .they are not the basics . For those that have never played live they need to no things like what happens when your cards hit the muck . min raises & such .
