border protection is really a non-issue of this election, at least the way the Libs are promoting it. stopping the boats is a crock, and only something for redneck xenophobes to cling on to. I see illegal immigrants EVERY SINGLE DAY coming through the airport. that's how most illegal immigrants get here? should we stop the planes too?

We are a nation of immigrants. Next issue please.

Mining Tax? Why do many middle east countries have free education and healthcare? Because they tax the sh!t out of their primary industry, namely oil. Why shouldn't we tax mining? Do you really believe mining companies are going to leave precious ore in the ground because of a tax? These companies have profits in the billions, if one company decides to pass up an opportunity to mine a certain resource, someone else is going to come along and dig it up anyway. The mining industry played a giant bluff to protect their exploitation of resources that belong to all of us, unfortunately too many people folded to that bluff. Instead you'd prefer a tax on groceries because that wouldn't have as much effect on CPI or the average family. ummmm......

The facts are benny the cunt

A vote in my electorate for the House of Reps is basically irrelevent because this seat is a safe Liberal seat, like at the last election where I was in a safe Labor seat, both these seats could have a donkey nominated and would win because they are too safe.

Because of this my vote has little value for the HR but the Senate is different kettle of fish.

One must decide to let one of the major parties have direct control or to vote for the Greens, an Independant or a single issue minor party to have the balance of power.

If Labor has control of the HR I would prefer the Libs/Nats have the majority in the senate, likewise if the Liberal-Nationals have the HR the I would prefer that Labor control the Senate, thus the senate becomes a real house of review. In no way do I want a minor party or independant have the balance of power.

Well if thats the case are custom's and immirgration actually doing their job ?

I dont have an issue with migrants they are more than welcome but what i cannot abide is queue jumpers which ever method of travel they choose, stand in line wait your turn, the other aspect I dislike is these so called International schools which provide an avenue for people to come to our country under the guise of being students when they are here to work.

Can I just say I love political debate and wish I could take part, but unfortunately I can't on this forum.

Both brett and I are very lucky that we had two very open minded parents who decided to let us grow up and make our own decisions.

My father is agnostic and my mother Roman Catholic and they decided they would not baptise us at a young age until we had learnt about religion and decided ourselves. I did not get baptised until I was 14.

The same applied to politics, my father is a staunch Liberal supporter but he never influenced my decision and from the age of 18 we had some great debates about business and politics. The fact remains for me that each major party offers me something every election, whilst I read about policies and there are many meta considerations my vote is simply cast on who will bring the most to the table and improve my way of life.

This vote for me will be pretty tight, but as a business owner, employed single non dependant male with extensive personal investments (mainly in land and blue chips shares) I am leaning slightly towards XXXXXXXXXXX at the moment!

Did you actually bother to read the entire post it was about provoking discussion about the senate.

And you were the one that basically said you were voting Labor because of the NBN and your dislike for Abbot, surely you could quantify what policies and accomplishments the current govt has done to invite you vote for them to continue in Government, also you have openly stated that you have always voted Labor, does this patten come from an informed decision or historical influence.

Just for the record my political influences come from my father who was a butcher and strong labor and union supporter, and then during my time in the military I become more of a liberal supporter, but now I'm for want of a better word a swinging voter.

i would vote for anyone that makes voting non compulsory , Because i do not see how that is a democracy . Being told you have to vote has communistic/dictatorial feel to it . Being told you HAVE to vote for someone even though you do not like or want them in so called power is wrong .

ps , big corporations really run the country . ie, Malcom Turnball multi billionaire a puppet for other millionaires , so on so on .

Democracy the GREEKS would be turning in there graves @ our so called Democracy .
