The PM might get 300+, but a back bencher would only be on around 130ish base. You get more for committees etc.

Its the superannuation that is the killer, its like 60% for the rest of your life. Remember..... Bill Che? something like that, was 33 or something he was booted from parliment in 2004? and retired on 80k for the rest of his life. NICE!

O'Chee apparently and it was only 50k (indexed of course!)

Yes, Kate certainly gets that particular vote from me. I think she got my vote last time too come to think of it, Adelaide.

I refuse to vote in the poll because its a loaded poll.

So please explain the following :-

When will the entire Adelaide region be connected to the NBN ?

How much will it cost joe average to connect to the NBN ?

Will the price be discounted for big business at the expense of the little bloke.

Now with all the circular discussion as to the value of the NBN, the NBN is solely aimed at the population centers of the nation and those not in the 93% of the populationare going to be offered some undecided version of wireless coverage, but in reality it's the 7% of the nation that has poor internet and telephone coverage that should be catered for first, alas that 7% generally vote liberal or national parties, there's no votes out there for labor.

Part of Julia's pitch is the medical aspect for the elderly of the NBN, but in reality the majority of people in my age group and older, I would suggest less than 25% would even have a computer at home, now lets try and get to visit a doctor let it's so hard to get to see one within a week, how will they get a internet consultation, you must be joking there's not enough doctors now.

You want me to Vote for a government that will give you the NBN, I wouldn't trust the labor party to run a pub chook raffle after the last 3 years of well run programs,
The Pink Bats affair, The BER schools program, Fuel Watch, Grocery Watch, etc etc Stimulas payments that went to everyone who filed a tax return in a given period .....you could be a Pom or even dead to get it.

Consider what a mess the country would be in now if it wasnt for Little Johnny and Costello's putting a little away for the future, Rudd/Gillard and their cohorts managed to spend the lot in little over a year, and are now running up a tab that will not be paid off by 2013

LABOR economic vandals.

Oh I had fast broadband in Adelaide that was delivered by the same cable that my Foxtel Service was on and it was affordable.

Every exchange is connected by fibre optic already and that was done years ago.

here is the costing that internode has in tasmania, and is selling to the public right now

http://www.internode.on.net/residential ... nbn_plans/

that is CHEAPER than most of the current internet available at the moment.

for comparison, i am on wimax right now, which is what the liberals are proposing (and what the 7% will be getting) and i pay $70 a month for 50 gig of internet.

i also get nowhere near 12MB/s due to environmental factors. it is more like 3-8MB/s depending on the time of day, weather, etc etc.

for the same price, i could theoretically double my speed (but realistically triple or quintuple it) with double the data.
25 MB/s with 100gig is 70 a month.

for 80 a month i could get 60 gig downloads at 100 MB/s.

so, rcon and gundog, tell me that its gonna be more expensive to have this.

93% of the population will get speeds of up to 100MB using fibre to the home, up to 100MB
7% will get wimax technology which will be 12MB. the reason for this is wireless is better technology for flat, sparsely populated ares, as it gives you better coverage. a single tower in the country will do a large area.

towns that are getting the full speed fibre

Adelaide, Angaston, Angle Vale, Ardrossan, Auburn, Balaklava, Balhannah, Barmera, Berri, Birdwood, Bordertown, Burra, Carrickalinga, Ceduna, Clare, Clarendon, Cleve, Coober Pedy, Cowell, Crafers-Bridgewater, Crystal Brook, Eudunda, Fisherman Bay, Freeling, Gawler, Goolwa, Greenock, Gumeracha, Hahndorf, Hindmarsh Island, Jamestown, Kadina, Kapunda, Keith, Kersbrook, Kimba, Kingscote, Kingston S.E., Lobethal, Loxton, Lyndoch, Macclesfield, Maitland, Mannum, McLaren Vale, Meadows, Meningie, Middleton, Millicent, Minlaton, Moonta, Mount Barker, Mount Gambier, Mount Torrens, Murray Bridge, Nairne, Naracoorte, Normanville, Nuriootpa, Oakbank, One Tree Hill, Paringa, Penola, Peterborough, Port Augusta, Port Broughton, Port Elliot, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Vincent, Quorn, Renmark, Riverton, Robe, Roseworthy, Roxby Downs, Saddleworth, Sellicks Beach, Sliver Sands, Stansbury, Strathalbyn, Summertown, Tailem Bend, Tanunda, Tumby Bay, Two Wells, Uraidla, Victor Harbor, Waikerie, Wallaroo, Whyalla, Williamstown, Willunga, Woodside, Woomera, Yankalilla, Yorketown

as you can see, that is pretty much every country town over around 1000 people.

towns that are getting wimax instead

Beachport, Blyth, Cadell, Callington, Cobdogla, Cummins, Dublin, Echunga, Edithburgh, Gladstone, Hamley Bridge, Houghton, Kalangadoo, Laura, Mallala, McLaren Flat, Morgan, Mount Burr, Mount Compass, Mount Pleasant, Nangwarry, Napperby, Owen, Port Germein, Port MacDonnell, Port Victoria, Port Wakefield, Springton, Tantanoola, Tarpeena, Truro, Virginia, Wasleys

most of the medical uses mentioned are between doctor and doctor, not patient doctor. i.e if you need scans analysed by a specialist, you only have to go to berri hospital, have the scans done, then they send the scans down to adelaide (which requires a huge bandwidth) for the specialist to look at etc.

yes, exchanges are connected via fibre, but the NBN is about fibre from the exchange to the home, which is where the bottle neck arises. (if you have even cared to research a little bit you would have found this out)

If you had watched the entire NBN launch for those tassie sites you would have seen Julia demonstrating and promoting the stay at home consultation. thats what I was refering to.
