Wow - good epic read. Disappointing, but epic all the same.

I have hope that one day , archaic discussion will not be formed on the basis of can man do it better than woman.

Each sex has it's own unique traits and generic strengths (this are now becoming clearly less defined in this modern world) but none of this should ever really contribute to someone making the comment: "but she's a woman, what would she know/she won't be able to do it/ she'll just stuff it up or she'll get it wrong in the end?"

I work in a VERY male dominated industry and I can quite happily say that some of the best executives and managers in this industry are woman. In any new business I am involved in I would actually want a woman involved as they STRENGTHEN any organisation they are involved in with a unique (and quite often intuitive) point of view, strong focus, determination and far superior thought processes and organisational ability than those of their male counterparts (these are just observations and not based on any scientific study).

It is actually sickening to think that woman (on average) still earn less than men in the same position.

Sorry bout the ramble, debate and discussion is healthy but I honestly believe that if you want to descend into discussion on moral ethos then perhaps discuss the desensitising nature of mainstream media and in turn the escalation of violent crimes or perhaps the downturn in moral/ethical behaviour and polite activity in the modern day social network.

This world should be a better place to live in right now, but instead we have more violent crimes than ever before, youth that have no respect for anybody, property crime is on the rise, noone acts in a chivalrous or caring manner to strangers anymore, mainstream media continues to erode the bounds of common decency and in 2010 we still find people living in poverty, children dying, thousands of people suffering at the hands of corrupt governments and yet sporting and media stars earn millions upon millions of dollars for keeping us (the "ignorant" masses) entertained and our minds off the real issues!

That went on for awhile, had a friend today who had some issues with her daughter and some of her friends and it pisses me off that a ten year old cannot say she likes barbie movies becuase she will get bullied by her friends. 10 years old ffs!

can you not see the point?

do you agree that there will be minimum standards that will have to be met? your argument is moot.

simple biomechanics will tell you that in general, men will be able to run faster and longer than a woman, but thats not the point. there will be minimum standards regardless of gender, and these will be the same.

this may be true, but has nothing to do with this debate

jeff gieschen is his name.

I agree with benny the cunt. once minimum standards are met - meaning they have to be very fit, but no international athlete or anything - then it does not matter if one person can run 100m quicker. In any case, its not speed (Anaerobic ability) that is the most important component of fitness for an AFL umpire but cardiovascular endurance (aerobic ability). So your argument doesn't make any sense. There are very very few times when a field umpire is sprinting at absolute maximum. Boundary umpires maybe, but not field.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

Trishan having read through your follow up comments you brought up the level of experience, but that is only one factor out of many when you consider how good someone is at what they do.

Maybe this female umpire had less experience then some other male umpires when she got her AFL job, but that doesn't mean she is less capable. And besides the error on friday night, has she made any other errors in the games she has been invovled in? Has her performance been below par consistantly? If the answer is no then your point doesn't have any merit. At best its a knee jerk reaction using an easy target.

I understand its frustrating when your team gets disadvantaged by a clear mistake by an umpire, and being an Essendon fan as well I was pissed off at the time. But if you stop and take a step back and take the one eyed bombers support glasses off you might notice Carlton had a clear goal ruled a point by the other goal umpire and they flogged us by 76 points. And the by far the biggest factor in Essendon losing was their lack of ability to kick straight, so really you should be having a go at the players and coaches instead of trying to scapegoat an umpire

I think this pretty much qualifies as the "worst thread ever" on this forum, and if I was a lady I would be seriously offended by it.

TRISHAN, YOU NEED TO PULL YOUR HEAD IN MATE.

Pointing out a mistake because it was made by a lady instead of a man is just crap, the ratio of mistakes made by men:lady umpires would be so far in front for the ladies it's not funny.

As Garth said, post about real issues, not sexist trash......

*and before you try and defend yourself, look at your own thread title, that might give you a clue as to why so many people think you are sexist....
What?, poker without the river??, you've just made my dreams come true!!!
