Go through this years MLB games, An umpire got a call wrong and cost a pitcher a perfect game, 27 batters face no one got on base all out.

Horses for courses, which one is more painful?

As long as they learn and develop umpires there will always be mistakes. Picking on any umpire at any level just means there is no level of incentive for people to go down that path as a career choice or as a hobby.

God knows i was ready to walk out on an A level baseball game after 3 innings because the coaches were disputing strikes.
Why argue over a few inches when there is still a few miles left in the game?

I think because the sport has been traditionally male-dominated it will be some time before female umpires have the required skill, but more importantly experience, to umpire.

Those two quotes are extremely sexist.

You'd never see anyone arguing like this if a male started umpiring netball.

Shannon Byrnes just kicked a goal that the GA called it a point. It had the commentators saying the GA should never be allowed to umpire again, and that it was worse than the decisions from the night before.

Sadly, this goal umpire is a man. Looks like the trial of having male goal umpires hasn't worked, so there wil be no goal umpires officiating next week.

BTW Trishan - why doesn't your OP address the other 'howler' from a goal umpire in that game? Is it because it was against Carlton, or because it wasn't a woman and therefore excusable?

I thought the word : racism , only meant something to a Racist , like sexism , only means something to a sexist ?

Apologies for that ... but , ain't we all humans ?

("hey Merve , because i am white and i shit brown , do you shit white cos you are brown?)

Really , mistakes are made in every game ... it is a given !

BAD CALL Trishan ...

I am being sexist!
Women have no place in commentating or umpiring AFL football..
Why do they even have to push their noses in anyway.

This has ALWAYS been a mans sport, played by men!

I understand I will get a verbal bashing for my beliefs and that is ok, because they are just that... My beliefs..
Enough of this sexual equality.. there has to be domains where men belong and women don't and vice versa!

Bring back the days when men opened the doors for women and we thanked them sincerely for doing so!

I also say this as someone that did break into a male dominated workforce, I was the only female out of over 200 men in a technical field.
But even I have my limits.

How could you not question who the female commentator is sleeping with? She has nothing but negative press about her and absolutely no following that I can see, yet week after week channel 10 put her on. I even have the same thoughts in regards to Samantha Lane. Who the hell put her where she is.. she is on a show for comedians and yet offers absolutely no comedic value at all. Thank god someone is there to write her thoughts down, so she has something to read!

But this is just my view.

I think its a cheap shot. The mistake had nothing to do with being female but simply being human. We all make mistakes, none of us are perfect.

There were other umpiring mistakes in that game where the umpire was a male. And what about the players, how many mistakes did they make during the game. So why grab onto one mistake by the one female umpire?
