because the NPL in SA can't be seen to promote gambling
with gambling being such a grey area (politically) at the moment, its better to say "no references to gambling" than to bring unneeded attention on the NPL
after all.. we dont want things to happen where we cant even hold free poker at all

Re: Sportsbet
steve, please dont make this a big issue
the rules have been set in place, the reasons have been said why, this discussion was done and dusted weeks ago
would you rather free poker be banned and we cant play at all?

Re: Sportsbet
i think you can still have things on a forum that are inappropriate to talk about - gambling is inappropriate on this forum..

Re: Sportsbet
LOL
sorry, just having a chuckle at references to freedom of speech on a privately owned forum
Steve - all it takes is one completely ignorant (and obviously DENSE) person to say "I saw on a messageboard a reference to gambling... OMG the NPL must want us to gamble!!!"
It's an issue none of us are even remotely prepared to give the time of day to. There was considerable effort made to even be permitted to have this level of freeroll poker in SA. We're not about to give it a chance to be ruined (especially by someone elses idiocy).
Sorry if that appears a little blunt, but that's the way it is and we feel it's an excellent reason.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

If that's the case, save your fingies the effort.
It's not up for debate and this is not a democracy.

Hi Steve,
This forum is not run by the NPL, it is run by us.
In saying that, we run the forum with the help and assistance, and most importantly, the support, of the NPL. Without this support, the forum would lack a lot of content and important information.
Because of this, and because of the "powers that be" watching things like "free poker" as a hawk would - the NPL needs to protect it's identity and clean image.
The decision was made by the NPL to ask us to not display talk of gambling on here. It is a simple rule, and it is a simple reason. Pete is right, it's just the way it is.
Apologies if you don't like it, as Des said, there are a copious amount of sites out there when you can discuss it (PM me if you want any!) - so your free speech won't be tarnished.
Cheers,
David

I am not trying to make a big deal out of this i just asked a question as to why the ruling existed as there was no clarification on why i thought asking why the ruling existed was the right way to go about things. i asked re freedom of speech because the ruling did not make sense without a explanation to me as betting is a legal topic that is discussed in the public on a regular basis now that it has been explained i will happily keep my fingers shut but prehaps it would be an idea next time, if such rules need to be made, add a little detail rather than just posting "No gambling related posts, please." then you wont have people mucking around writing figures into posts and people can understand why a legal and valid topic is banned as a topic of conversation.
Please note i am not trying to change minds i dont want to debate the issue i am happy with the explanations given i just read this post for the first time when i responded so i just wanted an answer as to why the ruling existed which i have loud and clear
