I hope someone can confirm the prize pool for this seasons state championships but it appears to be a bit on the light side. $1000.00 first prize plus a $1200.00 main event ticket isn't much considering the merging of the two leagues. From memory, this would have to be the lowest prize pool for a state champ / semi final in history.
Last season, the first prize was $4000.00 cash + $500 GF ticket which was worth while playing for, but this season, I don't know?

Re: SA State Championships
have to agree with you there, from memory, the last state final was at least 20k in prizemoney, and it used to be 25k back in the day

Re: SA State Championships
I'd suggest this is still from prior to the merger.
The cash component will be reduced, due to Main Event tickets being $1200, opposed to comparative $500 previously.
Can't comment on total prize pool.

it does have a full house group letterhead, and it is at the valley inn, which is an 888pl venue and was the venue of the last state finals

Last final was 15K.
Next season will indeed be 10K. May reasons for this, way above my paygrade. Don't automatically assume the merger means bigger everything, as we aren't really gaining that much ground with the acquisition of APL in this state with what is left after the debacle that was their previous franchise owner.
Not too sure about that prize breakdown, as I haven't seen anything come through on that yet, or that it will be at the Valley Inn, as nothing is signed yet either. All in all I don't know why this has been posted on their website.

While I agree if true it is a massive prize drop, how is $1000 plus a $1200 tournament ticket to an expected prizepool of $500,000+ not worth playing for when the event is a freeroll?

Re: SA State Championships
Hi all, let me try to explain.
Prize pools in each state are directly relative to the percentage of venues and events that the 888PL and APL leagues run. With Full House Group acquiring the APL it means that the percentage of venues & games accross each states changes completely. SA is affected the most by this going from 30% of the network (as 888PL) to just 8% of the network with both leagues.
The breakdown for State Champs prize pools for the states is as follows. These pools are based on how many players are seated in events every season. As you can clearly see, NSW has gone from not even being on the map for us to the biggest market in Australia overnight!
NSW $60,000
QLD $35,000
VIC $25,000
SA $10,000
WA $5,000
TAS $5,000
Also as was mentioned the Main Event tickets are now worth $1200 as opposed to $550 for the Grand Final so this also makes a difference to the cash prize payouts. The Main Event will be the absolute Premium poker event on the 888PL/APL calander and thus we want as many people to have a chance at what will be a massive prize pool.
Now the only way we will see this change if there is a dramatic increase in venues & events under either or both leagues banners. To achieve that we need players turning up at events & supporting the venues. Unfortunately what we cannot change is the enormous variance in population between the states.
I understand that it's dissapointing to se the prize pools drop but I must say I am a little surprised that anyone would ask if the event (State Champs) was worth playing? As a poker player is it not worth turning up & free rolling for a chance to win cash and an entry into a torunament that you WILL NOT be able to buy into? Maybe it's just me but a $10,000 Free Roll sounds pretty good.
Cheers, Tim.

Hmm, just checking some records, since January 2010, I've played 462 live games at 39 different venues.....including 2 quiet seasons, where I fell off the planet for a while..
Dissapointing that SA has slipped so severely in the rankings of numbers, and therefore dollars, but there is still a prestige factor to all this, it is still the State Championships, and always a great weekend
Stupid game..... Never playing again
