Short and sweet probably. I don't know - I haven't written it yet. Most of my trip report is contained in old man Swanky's.
My preparation began the Sunday before the weekend, when I came down with a really bad stomach bug. My Dad had the same bug (or I thought he did) and was over it in three days. Mine however, lingered a lot longer.
We were to leave Friday morning, and Thursday night was spent on the couch in a ball because of massive pains. Around midnight I packed - and went to bed at 12:30am setting my alarm for 4:45. Waking up, I was still in pain and even at that point, with old-man daryl, benny the cunt and Russ on their way to my house, I was 50/50 on going. This was going to be tough, with the flight, travel, and rushing around.
But, I went. Dad picked us up at my house at 5:20 and we scooted off to the airport.
I played the Friday night 888PL tourney - and busted in the first 10 minutes when I stacked off with TPTK to Big Pete's Queens. Pete cashed so that was ok.
Fast forward to the GF. I lost a fair few chips early, and at one stage was down to 3900 when the blinds were around 150/300. I managed to grind up to 40k without a showdown which meant I was hovering around average. I didn't see many good hands, I had aces twice with zero action (once a walk, and once a raise from UTG to 2.5x) so the rest of the time I was picking spots to push people around.
I lasted most of the day, until 20 minutes to go until the end of day one. I lazily limped with 88 in EP, to see a raise to my left. Everyone else folded, and I called. The flop came 4 5 7, rainbow. I open shoved for my whole stack - silly really. I was hoping he had AK, though that thought only came after I shoved and he didn't insta-call. If I was behind I as drawing to a 6 or an 8 so it wasn't as bac as it could've been.
In the end, he tank called with TT, and I bricked out, sending me to the rail. I had played really well up until then, and was disappointed with the way I became lazy towards the end.
I played the partners event with Russ McDonald. We did quite well - hovering for a while, and then I doubled through a guy when I flopped top set and turned a boat against his AK. Knew he was aggressive so just played it quite passively and was rewarded. Told Russ that I lost half our stack - I hope he was smiling when he saw I'd doubled.
Cut a long story short, we were bent over the pokermobile's bonnet and given a shafting by some rulings (if you can call them that) when Russ sat down with two tables left in my spot and had to pay the big blind AGAIN after I just paid it because some girl was moved to a dead spot and was allowed to pay the SB. then, Russ' cards were mucked by the dealer whilst he was buying up the blacks on the table for the floor manager. "Hang on, where are my cards?" "Ohhh... Sorry!!". Whatever.
Shoving twice with AQ and getting looked up by J7 (who only called after all players folded out of turn) and KJ, and losing both meant we were out. That's when the Hpnotiqs started.
I decided to play the Crown Sunday Series event the next day. $135 buy in. I think there were 143 runners so it was a decent field, and I recognised a lot of the bigger name players there. My stomach issues had FINALLY subsided which was only a lazy SEVEN DAYS after they started. It was nice to eat something and have a beer finally.
I played some of the best I've played in that tourney, using more patience than normal, and picking awesome spots to get my money in. I made the Final Table, and on the second hand picked up QQ. I Pushed all in (I had less than 10BB) and was called by Peter Aristidou, who had AJ. Flopped quads sealed that hand for me and I sat back for a while. I shoved half an hour later on from the SB with KK and was snapped called by the BB with AQhh. Flop was nice for me, though the running hearts gave him the flush and I lost half of my stack. After kicking something, I composed myself and focused back on the game. The final table was tough, but I managed to push certain players around and ended up three handed. Our stacks were reasonably even, and someone asked if we would be interested in a deal. We all agreed, and took $2150 each. We then played it down to a winner which was almost as important to me as the money. TOO often, I'll get that far and almost sabotage myself.
I ended up winning which meant nothing physical, except my name on the website! Didn't care - meant a lot to me anyway. I had a few people railing me too which was fun - usually I'm on the other side cheering someone else on. Unfortunately I missed most of the grand final action on Sunday but did manage to catch benny the cunt get 6th along with Pat and Chris doing extremely well. Mike was busto when I joined the action.
The rest of the story is what old-man daryl wrote really. Nice steak. Great drinks. Awesome mates. Good times.
I'm going to miss the grand finals.
