How did you run at NPL Season 5 States?

Postby AceLosesKing » Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:29 am

Warning: long read.

Surprised I haven't already seen this topic. Oh well, here goes.

How did you go at States? I started in flight 2. Had a double early, in the first level. Picked up [xad] [qxd] from UTG at 25/50, 3xBB. Got like 4 callers. Flop [6xd] [9xd] [x6s]. SB leads out, I call. Same on turn. I river my nut flush. She checks, I bet 600. She insta jams.

Dakota is called to rail. Shouts and jeers from the crowd when they realise its me. I can't put her on a set, I call. She rolls trip 6s. Was feeling good after that, had around 9.5k.

Made the recombine (2k/4k) with 15k. Picked up JJ vs Q9, doubled. Limped with A3s, flopped an A. Turned nut flush draw, fired. Two callers. River 3, I shove, both fold. That had me to around 60k. Lost 20k raising ATo, was repopped to 50k by the chip leader. I folded, that dropped me to around 35k. Kept making moves, until I found 99 UTG+1. Shoved for 43k at 5k/10k, called from the BB (who had 10k behind) with A2. He backed into a flush. Oh well, can't do anything about that.

Was left with 20k, at 7k/14k. UTG with 89o. Shoved, called by KQ, flops two pair. Happy with how I played all day, could only do what I could with the cards I was dealt. Couldve shoved with A9s to a raise, but it was a min raise on his bet (he had KQs, I wouldve hit the nut flush). But didn't want to put it in there.

Cheers to NPL for the day, REALLY enjoyed the 5k starting stack and relaxed levels. Could live with that for the rest of my life :D Looking forward to the next States!

i had a decent day was out pretty early bout halfway through the first break in the 2nd flight, had a fairly tight table, no raises preflop, they didnt mind calling my raises though.
I think i played with krunchie not 100% tho, if it was you... HELLO!!! nice to meet you i was sitting across from you :D. Day ended when i was short stacked with 2525 when Blinds were 400/800 shoved with 66 from behind the button with 1 limper, SB shoved over top, racing A Q, Q flopped, buh bye tommo...
Apart from that had a good day tho, won myself an awesome NPL lighter in the side games :)) Thanks NPL, you guys always put on a good show.

i thought i played pretty good poker all day, but i missed the recombine by 20 minutes which was disappointing.

came back from the last break with 18K, which was the most on my table at the time, and i was feeling really good. after that, i just got card dead. i mean really card dead.

it also didn't help that the guy 2 to my right was on a rush, and was making the play for the whole tale for the best part of an hour, it didn't allow me to make a play for the blinds and antes.

so i got blinded down to 10.5K. it was my BB for 2K. there was 1 limper in mid position - this player had been playing really passive pre flop, i think i had seen him raise once for more than a min raise - and he was folding to a raise with anything but premium.

so i looked down at [9c] [4d] and decided to try to make a play, since i thought he could fold.

he tanked for a while, and i think it was pretty obvious that he had had enough of folding, because he shook his head, and pushed his 6K ish that he had left into the middle.

he rolls [qh] [jd].

meh i am fresh, not what i wanted, but still.. but alas, J falls, and i am left with 3100 with 1700 of that in dead money next hand.

i throw it in with [jd] [2d] and tank wakes up with [10c] [10d] from the BB and thats benny the cunt home.

i am pretty disappointed with how the last hand played out, but i think that i had to make a move sooner or later - i figured that once i dropped under 10K with blinds moving up to 1500/3K, that i would have to start praying, so i decided to make a move.

in hindsight, i could have waited a couple of more hands, but i am not sure i would have played any differently.

oh well, it was a fun states

Yea tommo that was me, nice to meet you mate.
I was pretty happy when you left mate, your post hand reads on me were spot on all day and I was getting a little worried :D .

I lasted exactly 2hrs (20 mins short of the break) in flight 2.

I was very comfortable within my self this time around and was very happy with how things went for the first hour and 40mins.

I picked up some nice hands with a Set of aces and a set of 3s as well as a couple of flushes.
My mistake came when at big blind for 600, I had around 8500 and i looked down at [qhjh], and got raised utg to 2800, for some reason unknown to me now ( bad read) i put this bloke on low to middle pair and trying to protect it, so i decid to re raise to 4800 effectively putting him all in, Insta call.
He shows a pair of queens and thats me dominated and on tilt for the next 20 minutes.

Big Big mistake me and not my style at all, to say i am disapointed with my decision is and understatment, even if he had mid pockets I know the maths and with 2 overs my odds wernt that great, and id hate to think i fell for the old "but they were suited".

Anyway that left my stack and my confidence in tatters, 4 hands latter i went all in on pocket 9s and ran into pocket aces, wich only left a 2hr car trip back home, leaving plenty of time to think over that hand

Again,and again and again :)
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

It's a good thing I wasn't working the second flight... I would've given it to you for folding the nuts!!!

have to say that the venue is pretty awesome - first time i have been there, and the whole place is massive

in the normal bistro area, they had the poker, and the room was more than big enough - then outside in a massive grassed area they had a live band and food stalls.

food was ok, hamburger was 6 bucks, so reasonably priced as well, drinks were standard prices for a pub as well.

stamping was 3 bucks a stamp, which is probably on the more expensive side, as most pints of beer were $5 or $5.50, but this is a minor thing.

great venue, i think ill have to go back there for a regular game some time
