Krunchies Christies Hotel review

Ok so some of you would remember my post back in september 08

Regarding my visit to the Christies Beach Hotel for a Saturday night game and my displeasure of the Stamping policy, the general feel from the venue and the dispicible way the players treated each other.

Well Im pleased to say that this post promped a PM from the Southern region manager Sean, who then called me to go over my concerns and see if he could improve the experience.

On Sean's say so I ventured back to Christies for the past 2 Saturday night games while i was down south on holidays,
and I am pleased to report that the venue has indeed improved.

The stamping policy is now consistant, so I at least know how many stamps I will get for my money, and it is also reasonably fair ( although the same order got me 2 extra stamps at the Seaford Hotel)

It does seem the venues numbers are consistantly down on past numbers, both nights were around 40 runners where last year the venue was posting numbers around 70 consistantly, hopefully the numbers will improve with time.

But by far the best improvent was the way the players treated each other. In the 2 nights i went, i saw nor heard any agro or bullying that was so prevalent at my previous visit.
There was a couple of examples of players bending the rules but that was quietly sorted out without any issues arising.

So in general the Christies is back on track, well done to Sean and Geoff ( the TD) for putting in the effort.

Thats not to say there are not better places to play down south,
The seaford hotel probably rates better than christies in terms of venue, feel and players as well as stamping etc, ( probably because i got a first and a second in the 2 games i played there)

But of the 3 venues I played i would rate the Southern Districts Workmans Club the best, A great venue perfect for poker with heaps of numbers and room. Generous stamping, prizes, bonuses etc and a realy freindly atmosphere with heaps of lady players present, they seem to be making a real effort to make the NPL poker experience enjoyable, no doubt due to the work Sean and Geoff are doing.

as a social pub poker player, its really ALL you want - venues that take an interest in the poker, and dont just try and use it as a cash cow.

Personally I feel you were being kind on the venue itself.

Sean will no doubt be furious with me for this, but the Christies is by far the worst venue to play out here in the South.

NPL has absolutely cleaned up the way players treat each other, but The Christies stamping policy is an absolute disgrace!!!!!

3 stamps for an $18.00 meal and 3 stamps for a $6.00 meal...
No.. unacceptable!!!

For the most part when I was there last, I bought a double vodka... (believe it or not just to get the stamps... I am a non drinker!) and got 2 stamps for the effort.

When I also mentioned this to the staff member he was quick to say it is all you get...
Unacceptable!
Most other venues give you 4 stamps!

For the most part as far as the TD's have cleaned up the way the players act, but the venue is far from close to listening to what their patrons have to say.


But your 100% right, Workmans Club is absolutely fantastic and by far one of the best venues to play at.
They listen to their players, they contribute back to them, their stamping policy is fair and equitable, it is clean and the staff are always friendly and willing to help!
Could any player ever ask for more?

However, it is a shame you didn't get to try The Aussie Hotel on the Friday nights, that is definately a great fun and friendly environment.

The Aussie and the Emu are deffinately on my hit list for next time,

i would idealy like to try all the southern venues at least once, hopefully that will happen given enough time.

I know what your saying about the christies stamping, they are still way behind the others, but they at least are constistantly bad now, last time i got different number of stamps every time i ordered the same drinks order- which is just plain wrong.

Of the 3 in terms of stamps its actually the seaford that offered the best value, but then their prizes were the worst of the 3 by far.

For winning I got a $25 dollar voucher and 5 x $10 dollar drinks vouchers

sounds good in theory but the fine print on the vouchers goes on to say that the voucher is good for 1 drink puchase only to the maximum value of $10 so it is imposible to get your $50 worth out of the vouchers unless you drink $10 cocktails.

I was less than impressed with that as a prize to be truthfull.

But overall I had a lot of fun, met great people and got to play cards on my holiday, and i cant argue with that.

When i get the Chance guys i will be changing the stamp policy at the Christies, ( all ready have the meeting booked)

There is now a new venue manager there who has told me to bring the players back he will help.

I still really like the venue, but like most players really had to and have cut down the number of venues I play at.
