There are only 2 events of 888 near Mt Gambier and they both are 50 and 100 km from the Mount (Penola & Naracoorte) !

Mildura is a lovely place , i would be keen ! !

;)
When choosing between the 2 evils , I like to choose the 1 i haven't tried yet !

Although it would be a good promotional idea for 888 to get exposure in Mt. Gambier by holding a big event there ..

The Barn comes to mind as a venue that could be used for such an event !

And there is plenty of cheap accomodation there too ..

Not only will it attract the usual 888 players , it may entice a lot of the other crowds guys who play locally there ... ;)

I doubt any of the local pubs that have poker their wouldbe keen to host such an event tho

There used to be events in Mt Gambier (at least 3 I think) but for some reason or another they no longer exist. Being the largest country town outside of Adelaide I am a little bemused that there aren't any?? There are 2 "other leagues" that operate in Mt Gambier & they have 2 games each per week - 4 in total. So there is a market down there. With 888 holding 2 weekly events in the region (used to be 3) & another independent league holding 4 games per week. There are 10 games per week in the South East. Not huge I know but maybe enough to gain support from some of the local folk?

Sorry Sinister, as classy as the Barn is it's a shocking place to hold a poker event - unless it was an alcohol free weekend? The barn is approx 8 kms out of the city centre. Heaps of room but just too far out of town. But as far as all types of accommodation, Mt Gambier would be a good choice if you could get the support from the rest of SA & Victoria & there are plenty of venues that could accommodate the crowd.

I seriously doubt that you would get the numbers though. It would be a big gamble for 888pl & a venue to stage this event without some guarantee of numbers. Unless there was someway of charging an entry fee up front to try & make people commit, I think there will be too many people pull out at the last minute?

Just my thoughts.

on second thought whilst wirrina maybe a fantastic location, but it has limited entertainment for the non playing partners if they are non golfers.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

A pre register/entry , is a good idea for sure to get the numbers pre event .

I would pay me $50 entry pre event for sure ! !

Kinda forgot the Barn was out just of the Mount , so drinking may (would) be an issue for sure .

I only suggested that as i know there are other mobs running poker in most of the pubs there , and believe it would be an issue to get them to host an 888 event .

I played at all 3 of the 888 venues in the SE previously , Beachport was my favorite , but they stopped the games ..

I suppose one of the Footy clubs there may come to the party , or perhaps the BasketBall joint (does it still exist ? :?)

The Mildura idea is great also as i know they have the longest bar in the world there at The Working Mans Club , and with a bar that size i am sure they would have the room for such an event ;) .. and there is plenty of cheap accomodation there too ..

Really, it should/would be an existing 888PL Venue, else there's not much point.
Silly to hold a large event like that in a place that isn't 888PL already.
