For those who care.............I have fixed the hole in the wall from last nights experiment.

So, this morning I went to the hobby shop on Main North Road and bought a wind up (rubber band) type plane.

I started the tread mill on medium walking speed, wound up the propeller and put it on the tread mill.

Dammmmmmmmmmmmm, I'm about to go back to the shed and get another piece of gyprock to fix the new hole in the OTHER wall from the plane smashing into it!!!!!!!!!

does everyone agree that the plane will take off? if you dont agree, thats fine, we have had many a debate about this.

actually, think of it this way. suppose you had a skate board, that you put on the treadmill. you stand on the skateboard, but when you push with your foot to move, you push on the ground next to the treadmill.

are you going to move forward?

Because the force is created by the foot, which is using the ground as resistance rather than the air.

I thought you pushed off on the treadmill... rather than the ground next to it.

I believe you would move forward as well.
