My mate Hawkesy will be inconsolable at the moment, with Scunthorpe beating Millwall in the League 1 playoffs... 86th minute winner, or something.

Re: World Football Thread
So does tonights result mean that Chelsea won the FA cup?
I am guessing this is equivalent to the AFL Grand Final?
Just not as prestigious...

Re: World Football Thread
Chelsea did indeed win the FA Cup.
Not the same sort of thing though.
The league itself does not have a finals series (and this is GOOD).
The FA Cup is a separate knockout competition that runs throughout the football season and is open to absolutely every single football club in England no matter what division they are in. In theory, the smallest club in the history of ever can win it.

the FA cup is an awesome comp - awesome to see a tiny little town club upset one of the premier league or championship teams
pete, has there ever been a non premier league team win it? what about a team from lower than the championship?

I'd have to go and check to be honest.
There's been squillions of upsets though, and that is indeed the great thing about it.

Re: World Football Thread
the bigger teams dont see the FA cup as something they rate of high importance, especially early in the comp as they usually play a lot of younger players which is the main reason behind some of the big upsets
however im happy we got some silverwear out of the season after such a heartbreaking champions league exit
