Re: CENSORSHIP

Postby BigPete33 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:30 pm

Just briefly, very few posts have actually been deleted. If they have, it's for a reason and that reason will have been explained to the person responsible.

Most of the posts that get edited are posts by Luke, incidently he seems to be grasping the language much better now and I for one am extremely happy for him (well done mate).

Some things cannot be mentioned, end of story. This doesn't mean we personally agree with this, but there are valid reasons why and that's that.

I refer everyone to the forum rules. Either follow them, or don't.

which would you rather see?....

a) "I don't like this, that and the other" (ie just a whinge)

or b) "I'd like to see <x> improved, here's my suggestion." (constructive)

One thing we most definitely do NOT want is this to be turned into a place to just whinge. Go whinge to your mum's. We would much rather see (and are trying very hard to encourage you all to do this) that you present any 'issues' you may have in a manner which can actually be discussed or debated. This avoids a massive outburst of negativity and we can all still claim to be adults.

Ok, maybe that wasn't very brief :)
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Now see! We are heading towards a constructive debate. Good points AK.

Competition in a negative light = I don't know what post you are referring to, and without reading it I can't really comment, but was that the only reason it was removed? Because it made NPL look bad?

These posts were about another pub poker provider and did not cast them in a positive light but in a very negative light and it was just bagging the competition. These posts were removed. For several reasons but we don't feel the need to advertise our competition in any light.

We will accept most opinions on any level. And I will accept any negative feedback on any issue within reason. What I won't accept is a negative post to either start a flame or just for the sake of it. People are entitled to their opinion and as previously stated if you do have a serious problem or issue email me and this will be resolved.

If its just for the sake of it, shouldn't we be allowed to vent somewhere? If the post is intended as nothing more than an "I'm annoyed at something" - can't we tell other players that?

Venting is fine within reason, saying you dislike something is ok as well but the manner in which it is done needs to be revised at times. And if it something that really doesn't concern or you don't care then why post a reply?

For reference, here's what I originally posted:

"Wow, $100 a week? No wonder you guys aren't making a profit."

How does this help in any way? How is this a vent or a showing of displeasure?
It cam across as a post for posts sake with no relevance whatsoever and it looks like you were trying to bait for a heated reply. You have to admit there was no reason for this post. And I am sure many would agree.

My problem is with the forum, and how its being run.

In the end this forum is run by several players in conjunction with and the support of NPL, it is privately owned and these players can run the forum in any manner they wish (within certain boundaries) they do this because they love NPL and what it has bought to this state. The forum they created was to support, promote and generate interest in NPL.
If they don't like what is written then they can edit whatever content they wish on this forum.

Fair enough. I completely agree with not allowing players to discuss other pub poker competitions on the NPL forums, by the way. It'd be a stupid business practice if you did.

I'll say again: Must I come up with ways for McQueens to get more runners or not post at all? If I had said something like "McQueens is an awful joint!" I'd be right there with you, but my post was nothing like that.

Garth Kay wrote:It cam across as a post for posts sake with no relevance whatsoever and it looks like you were trying to bait for a heated reply. You have to admit there was no reason for this post. And I am sure many would agree.

Horrible argument, Garth. It was never a "post's for posts sake" - I don't do that, I'm not out to become the highest poster here. If I don't have any interest in a particular thread, I won't post in it.

No relevance whatsoever? Hardly. I was just replying to what the venue leader said. Check my reply to Des for more clarification. I was never trying to bait for a heated reply, I'm not like that. If I was, my reply would've been far more personal.

I will admit that there was no reason for this post, other than to express my wonder at how McQueens makes a profit - and I only did so because the venue leader basically said this himself.

And like the Moderator's don't "post for posts sake." Check basically every thread and it runs like a back-and-forth conversation that could be had through PMs, or email - not on the forums.

Anyway, I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion about my McQueens post. If you wish to continue this discussion, please PM me, I don't think this is something the entire forum needs to/wants to read about.

My problem is with the forum, and how its being run.

Yes, this is true.

Bit of a hypocritical argument there in itself. You don't see the argument against or how the comment you made had every right to be removed. Just for reference "Boof" is not the venue leader but the DM for that venue.
You don 't think the forum needs to hear about this but you will quite openly express your personal views and defend anyone else's opinion. And you will openly denigrate the manner in which this forum is run by the moderators.
I know you're more mature than this. But you have upset several people today one of which is the above mentioned DM for this venue. Can you see how comments affect others? And why it does closely relate to why some posts need to be censored.

Well, Cougar - I hope you read this and haven't given up the discussion thread. I for one would be disappointed to see you give up the npl. You've always been great competition, and more importantly great conversation. Not having seen you at the Modbury for a while I have missed the fun you bring to a table.

All I can say is I certainly see your points, but my advice is to do what I do - play every week, but at one location. I've made both state finals so far playing almost exclusively at one pub each week - first the Highlander and now the Modbury, and I'm around the mark to do it again this season.

Satan's hairy testes would freeze before I could play enough games to get on the state leaderboard, so I'm happy to keep sticking with the one pub and playing good solid consistent Poker to make it into the top 5. You're definately a quality player who could make it if you stuck with one or two pubs, just making sure you set the time aside to play each week at said pub(s). Of course I'd be more than happy to risk my spot in the Modbury's top 5 to have you keep playing there each week....
Check out my ample flop....

Just for everyones reference, Cougar has qualified for everything so far.

State Final 1 + 2.
Aussie Millions satellite.
Sky City satellite.

Decent effort that.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I can't see why he is complaining. 36 games played in season 2.

Only 11 played this season and hasnt even played all of the games at his regular venue.

Not really giving it a decent crack to qualify top 5 anywhere.

Maybe if he takes a break the thrill of the hunt might come back. I dunno.

Well that tells us what he's done but it sheds zero light on who he is or what he looks like???????????

Once again we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Your talking about someone (Couger) that you know personally and have met but for the rest of us he could be standing right next to us and we wouldn't even know.

Why don't you guys post your OWN DAMED PHOTOS so the rest of us can at least put a face to whoevers whinging or whining or maybe even making a positive suggestion.

Are you so damned ugly or insecure that you use this forum with nothing but an alias for your identity?????????

I'm serious about this sort of thing as it's too easy to sit back and not be seen by anyone other than those who know each other personally.

I was asked last night by Mark an Assistant TD who works with Dakota. "Who the hell is, Aces Loses Kings, Bennymacca and 24 Decepticons??????????

"The first two who the hell knows, and the third one you work with, it's Dokota" He was totally stupified as he recalled seeing it on Dakota's laptop, LOL.

So I guess 1 from 2 is okay if you have no interest, but there's a guy who actually works with the person in question and had no idea.

If you recall a few weeks prior to the teams event I was asking who you were Pete. You knew me and said you sat on the same table as me at the Winsor. But you had two advantages over me.

1........ I actually posted my pic on NPLSA
2........ I've played a few venues and people know me as Bob B

It wasn't until you introduced yourself to me again that I recalled meeting you at the Winsor.

Anyway, Couger looks like he's spat the proverbial so it won't really matter much to anyone any more, or will it?????????

I'd still like to know who he was just to put a face to the name!

And for anyone whose still not sure who I am heres a mug shot of me and my lovely wife Donna on one of our Chrysler Restorers Club runs.

Wow Bob calm down mate... you need to take a huge chill pill.

People don't have to post their pics. I'd prefer it if everyone didnt know who I was. I'd get more action at the table.

Just when you sit down at the table ask people if they are on the forums and you can introduce yourself as Bob and all will be good with the world.

What is it with peoples obsessions with photo's on this site lol... i just dont get it. You look at it once and its forgotton.

And it is spelt D A K O T A.
