Your post really sums up my thoughts on this coming election - especially the above quoted part (my family has never voted liberal ever - yet we will this Saturday).
I find these statements so interesting, because for me the opposite is true, being from the country i have never voted for anyone but librel in 18 years of voting age,
its funny to think how opposite of the voting spectrum we are due to our location.
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Funny Krunchie Chaffey the electorate you live in was solid Labor before your time. I remember running for it about 14 years ago, it was a fun and what really struck me was I felt I could have been Port Adelaide as the issues wern't really different only the perception on who could help was. I did put Karlene Maywald over the line with my preferences, which was a good thing for your electorate.

Thanks for that wabbit. This just shows the typical liberal mindset of oh crap that's a lot of money that can't ever be good

Re: Election Issues
I voted last night, so happy to ignore this thread now
G4C would be a State Election party, not federal I'm gathering anyway.

Re: Election Issues
So glad I didn't vote for him:
TONY Abbott will today offer a $6500 bonus payment for long-term young unemployed people who can find and hold down a job for two years.
The Opposition Leader says his "new deal" dole-breaker scheme will stop people aged under 30 becoming trapped on welfare and would force them to "lift their game".
Mr Abbott said if he was elected on Saturday he would pay a $2500 bonus to people who have been on the dole for a year if they get a job and stay off welfare for a year.
They will get an extra $4000 if they stay in a job and off welfare for two years.
"I am unveiling a new deal for young people who might otherwise be trapped in long term welfare dependency. It will involve more help from the government, more effort from industry, and, more importantly, more expectations of young people," he said.
"We'll do our part as a government and as a society, but we expect young people to lift their game too."
Mr Abbott said the incentive payment for the long-term jobless would help provide motivation and self-esteem to vulnerable people.
He also said he would restructure Labor's proposed relocation payment of up to $6000 for people who move home to take up a job offer to Mr Abbott said it would build on his earlier campaign promise to pay employers a $3250 reward to hire mature age workers aged between 50 and 65 years.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

Re: Election Issues
on the broadband issue rcon, i am obviously looking at it with my rosy coloured engineers glasses
for you to say "why do we need the bandwidth" is just a bit short sighted.
most engineers wont invent something unless there is a realistic chance of the technology being available to implement it.
i am going to give examples that everyone will relate to
with the invention of broadband internet, everyone started filesharing - then someone comes up with the idea of social networking like facebook - people having hundreds of photos at call for everyone else to look at is pretty inconceivable with dialup internet.
then faster internet comes along, and you get sites like youtube popping up
when video streaming becomes instantaneous the way photo browsing is now, what next? well thats where you can drive innovation, but if there is no bandwidth there for you to use, then why even bother?
there are numerous other "more important" examples than facebook and youtube, but if you look at the timeline, these novel sites come about only after the bandwidth is available for them to use, not the other way round

Re: Election Issues
More power to principals to hire and fire - being a public servant myself, I know how complacent some people can get. I also know a lot of hard working teachers who are very frustrated their "boss" is forced to continue to employ poorly performing staff.maccatak11 wrote:rcon wrote: And just for the record, I love some of Gillard's proposals for education, even if its largely been ripped of various libs - I'm all for it!
Go on.
Myschool website. I know it was implemented by a shocking administration and therefore there is no surprise the data quality control was terrible, but I think the idea of information is never a bad one. Sunshine can only help illuminate areas in need of assistance. I do understand why some (most?) teachers are against it and have sympathy for that position, but personally, i'd always err of the side of giving info the parents.
I'd suggest you read some of the articles I posted. You won't find a "technical" expert who says "sure, lets not blow the budget on the latest technology", it is like asking me do I want unlimited credit as a WSOP series. Of course I do, sure as hell isn't a good idea tho. They're experts at technology, not public administration.wabbit999 wrote:Still yet to find any positive new artical on Abbot's plan - maybe it's still downloading...
If this is such a killer idea, where is the cost benefit analysis that proves it, or is it just "the vibe" and anyone that doesn't agree simply a backwater yokel? Why does this government feel it doesn't need to explain this "investment", which is the biggest infrastructure investment in our history - its been what, 12 months? Surely it deserves more than that.
