Just because you have AK doesn't give you a right to the pot.

he was prolly just annoyed that he bluffed into the nuts, and i hit my gutter.

but i wasn't calling for the gutter, i was calling to be able to take the pot away from him on later streets.

turns out he was even more aggressive than i thought.

so i ended up calling, and i binked the 8 on the turn to give me the nuts. he checked, i tanked to make it look bluffy, then i led out for 3500, and he stacked off with AK no draw. so he spazzed a bit. afterwards he gave the whole "pfft JT blah blah blah" but i thought i played it ok.

By calling, that is exactly what I am hoping to happen. If a different card comes on the turn, I will re-evaluate the situation then.

At that stage of the tournament, with the stack you had...... I am prepared to lay that hand down and wait for a better spot if I have to.

I think you played it well. You got all of your opponents chips.
Note to self: Fold Aces on the bubble.......

let me be clear though, my primary reason for calling was that i thought i could take it away from him on pretty much any non ace, king or Q turn card. the fact that i got there and then changed my story to make it look bluffy when i made my straight was just lucky.

This situation is still on my mind here.

You're calling, hoping to dodge anything J+
You think he is calling any raise from you, even tho he c-bet is so weak.
You think you can take the pot away from him, assuming you avoid J+

My thought here are that he'll be getting even better odds on his remaining stack with a hand that won't have changed, even if you do dodge your J+ scare cards (if this flop hasn't hit your range, nothing will)

I think an argument can be made for a raise here.
