Poker of Today still holds most of these core elements and Characteristics. Afterall the Paddleboats of the Missisippi where the romance of Poker began {illegal gambling on the Rivers where no State Troopers had any juridiction, they were self contained and constantly moving}. had Captains..
Todays 888pl venues could be consider ruderless vessels needing guidance and tutorail by a Captain.

If fact some venues contain 'pirates" robbing innocent patons blind a good Captain of a fine well run ship would prevent this.
The Skill and daring of some players[pirates] needs to be controlled and orderely on a ship/venue and a good capable Captain needs many skills to achieve a enjoyable and rewarding environment.

Sure a sporting association could be applied but I think this aquaditic ananolgy could be also applied.

after all the good ship 888PL is being run by a Five Star General ... a G[General ]. . Kay

and is fighting many wars on various Fronts.

even an Army anaolgy could be applied .....

off into another "battle" against villianous foes...

Thanks heaps for taking the time to explain how the title came about Garth.
You see my thoughts on the title and I can understand why it comes about also.

But sometimes, changing something just for the sake of changing it is ... I dunno... overkill for lack of a better way to word it.

Tournament Director and Assistant where terms that fitted that role perfectly.

I guess it is easy to comment from the sidelines, not understanding the structure, nor where the request came from. But sometimes changing titles just for the sake of changing them, just seems insane.

They might not answer

I actually dislike the term Tournament Director and Assistant.

I quite preferred the term or title of Tournament Host, the primary role of any TD in our organisation is to ensure that all people have a fun and exciting time and the actual tournament is secondary to that.

Whilst for challenge events I think these responsibilites are reversed. The TD's role in the events are to ensure a professional conducted tournament with all rules are produced this would ensure that everyone forking over their hard earned dollars would be having a fun night.

We pride ourselves on the delivery of tournaments, but I also think our Customer Service skills in the poker industry is second to none. That's what really sets us apart from our competitors.

We didn't change it for the sake of changing it, we are developing a new brand and a new style of competition. The language of this competition will change as well and as such new terms were created.

The term won't change and it is something you have to live with. In the end I am pretty sure that there will be other things to have a grievance with, the title of our tournament staff won't be the last of it. But I like to think our guys are that good that you would all know them by name anyway.

Gundog: Captains in American sport are figureheads and nothing more. Complete waste of time even naming one. benny the cunt is completely correct (just this once).

Garth: Poker is a sport, agreed. The person who should be enforcing any rules (and I do stress "should") can't be considered as part of the team because that simply means people won't listen, like now.

Referee/Assistant Referee would be a better type of choice for the role that they are there for. I don't care it you use the term umpire or referee or whatever, it's the theme I'm on about.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
