I realised a good time ago that NPL is good for one thing: social poker.
I still enjoy heading down now and then. Chatting to the TD's, fellow players, making moves with monster/hammer, just generally having a good time with mates... THAT'S what NPL is for. As is stated by Garth and co many times over, NPL is free, fun poker. Its NOT your entry into the WSOP.
You want to take poker seriously? Check out 2+2. Buy some books. Throw $100 online and work on your game. Or head down to the cas and make some real money.
And yeah, the other providers are doing a much better job atm. One such provider has a 4 week season, larger starting stack. Take a look at some other leagues setup:
- Top 10 in the region (currently one venue, so just make top 10 there) qualify for states.
- States generally has around 100 runners, top 3 qualify to pokerdome, some huge thing in Melb. Larger field (around 1000 I think) but the prizepool is $80k (20k start stack, btw).
That is SO much better than playing a 10 week season, to get top 5, to run like a god at states, and finish top 30 in a 500+ field for $150. So obviously, OzPoker has better prizes than NPL.
Why don't I play with them then?
Because they are sooooo unprofessional. Their TD is shocking, I had to correct him on about 5 errors throughout the night. And I like NPL. The TD's, the group... its just so much better than any other provider.
But yeah, their are things that you could be doing better. Larger starting stacks for one. Cash games is another, hurry up dammit, or you'll lose all your customers (we have another provider already in Gawler).
I've got faith Garth will bring the thunder.
