fair enough about being chrissy time, but sorry krunchie, you can't really use travel time as an excuse - its just a fact of life that nearly all events will be held in the city.

thats not to say you dont do a lot of travelling, just that its always going to be like that unless you move into the city.

the coment was made that the crowd was down on the expected numbers

i am mearly puting a line of thought towards that

what are we playing for, is it serious, or is it micky mouse.

To be honest while i would have loved to be there (really really),
it did seem a bit micky mouse to me, (lets put a comp on so people know why we give those final chips away, otherwise we might look a little silly)

So i guess what i am saying is that i would gladly drive 10+ hrs for state finals or even the forum free roll because that does something for me, but for some reason this event didnt seem to grab my attention enough to dedicate 10+ hrs of my sunday ( away from my family ) to it.

to be truthfull im not realy sure why it didnt it just didnt

probaly christmas and a few other things but it just didnt
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Krunchie,

Nice post. What would get your gears moving prizewise? Put some feedback in there so at least Garth and management can start working out what the FTT have as value.

I enjoyed the day. Although I did spend more time in the Arkabar's toilet throwing up then I did playing poker I still found the change compared to then ormal tournaments good.

I liked the idea of the shoot out as it's a different style to a normal tourny as in a normal tourny I usually spend time getting a read on your table and setting a good table image only to be moved to another table soon after. I like the idea of staying at the same table till you're down to the final 2. I did however only last I think 3 hands as I purposely threw my chips away as I didn't particulary want to vomit all over the table. This meant I didn't get to experience the shoot out as much as I would have liked.

The team event was different again. I consider myself a fairly aggressive player, but found myself sitting there thinking "I don't want to be the one to lose all our chips" and so for the sake of my partner I toned it back a bit and played a more restricted style. Normally when I would raise massively or even push I found myself just calling or even folding when I thought I may have been good.
I liked the team event in general but I do believe it needs a bit of fine tuning. My biggest problem was with the blind levels. They jumped that much that you found yourself losing your chips without actually having played a hand even past the flop. I saw many people going all in after having played only one or two hands simply because they'd be blinded down to a short stack and had few options.
I understand why the blind levels were the way they were but this is just my opinion.

Other then that thought the day was enjoyable and cheers to NPL and the Ark for hosting it :D
If you've got luck...use it!

I thought the shootout was a great idea but I failed miserably and was among the second out on my table... :( So then my mate and I who went to the ark pondered whether we should stay and couldn't justify waiting 5 hours for the partners event, even though that was the primary reason for going, 5 hours wait just seemed ridiculous - even though there were other tournaments, I couldn't be bothered.

I would say put the partners event on first then the shootout as a fast way to end a fun day, given the partners event was the *focal point* of the day - that's just my perspective but it is still an outstanding concept, I think it would benefit everyone having partners event first because everyone on my table at shootout didn't care about it and only went to qualify for partners in the first place...

hi all, there is no topic for this in victoria, so I have to gate crash yours ... sorry ... we did not go on sunday to the ftt event in victoria as it did not appeal to us ... and I am being honest here so don't can me. We would have gone to play in a partners event, but could not make it earlier due to work committments and it was made clear that in order to play in the teams event, you had to play in the shoot out event first.

the main issue I see from what you are all saying, apart from the blinds, is the time factor and given that we may not have gotten to play with a partner of our choosing, what if our mate did not stay .... not sure how it worked for you guys ... but Garth said that he thought everyone would have a mate with them and that is how partners would be made up.

while my hubby could have played earlier, I had to work (unable to change this close to christmas) ... and therefore I could not partner him. so if he planned to partner someone else, and he went out early in the shoot out, would he have stayed around to play in the partners event or gone home and left you partnerless? we were not willing to take the risk.

However, it would have been great to play - we do it with friends, the first game with your other half, and from then on, pot luck - you draw your partner out of a hat .... and it is so much fun.

perhaps each region can have just a partners event held locally one sunday afternoon, using ftt chips with either the top 5 from each region making the final ... that will give you over 60 teams to play off ... or maybe final table makes it through, which would give you 13 tables to play off ... OR paying the top team in each region and leaving it at that.

the only issue now is finding a prize to make it worth playing for ... just a thought .... perhaps a seat at the casino - in the partners event .... perhaps they have different levels of qualification ...
