Can't really expect your opening batsmen to do anything bit field in the slips to conserve energy but Watson has to bowl 15 overs as well. Pretty tough if you ask me

Mate, if your opener can stick around for a brilliant 50 and take the shine off the ball every time, that's gold!!!

I disagree, your openers should be capable of batting for a full day and making double hundreds, I don't think Watson can do that with his current bowling workload

Once again mr macca, we have to agree to disagree. Those batsmen are perfect no 3-5 batsmen....

ok, ill pose you a question

do you think that watson should have a better record than 2 hundreds, with a highest score of 126, and 13 fifties, a conversion rate of 15%

in first class cricket, where he typically batted at 4, he has 17 hundreds and 36 fifties, which is a conversion rate of 47%, (or 65% if you count only his state cricket and not state+country)

given his bowling workload, do you think he would make more hundreds in the middle order than at the top of the order?

Ashes 2010

Flawed stats IMO

His 90 odds are as good as 100s. Just because he didn't hit 3 figures don't discount the value as a missed 100 if it's in the 90s.

but if it was Langer or Hayden, he makes 160 rather than 90.

I think watson has the ability to make those extra 70 runs if he was batting in the middle order, but thats my point

fair enough

i kinda like it that katich has been injured though, not because katich was doing bad, but i think it gives hughes a chance to cement his place in the team.

will be interesting, if he does well, what they will do with the team.

does anyone think north will be retained? i hope he doesnt. maybe steve smith to come in and bat at 7 with haddin at 6?

IMO this is would be my team for the WACA. We need to score quickly as well as take the 20 wickets (the biggest ???)no other stand outs for the bowling.

Brad Hodge

i like that team, except i think brad hodges international career is over.

its a shame, because he will be one of those that could have played 100 tests if given more opportunity, but now that he is 35, i dont see the value in putting him in when at most he only has 2-3 years left.

at the moment, we dont need fill the gap players, we need to unearth the next 10 year players.

khawaja, hughes, fergusson are that next generation. better to get games into them than go back to hodge, even though hodge will probably score more runs
