Really good questions benny the cunt. I really could think of nothing. Have met some big poker players and just said nothing like an idiot and pretended I did not know who they were. I suppose that is why I am still a wannabe and you are on your way to be

Yep, definitely keen for this. Exposure to big mainstream tournaments (the ones the top pros travel to play) is what it is all about! Garth, haven't had time to answer your questions, but will try to do so in the next day or so....
What?, poker without the river??, you've just made my dreams come true!!!

there's a fine line between wanabee and neverwillbee.
I'll put my hand up and say I'm a neverwillbee cos I don't wanabee, when I play it's entertainment and don't take it too seriously love busting big pockets with 2/4 off.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Re: Poker Seminars and Staking available - but it's up to you!
1.) What common mistakes do you see 888PL players make?
Calling decent sized raises with most 2 suited face cards. Pushing &/or calling 100bb with small pairs or big aces pre flop (I think it is important to note that these plays are not exclusive to 888pl players, it is just common at the level I play ($0-10 buy in games)
2.) What mistakes do you think you often make (please post hands if your up for it).
Defending my blinds with suited connectors or gappers, calling re-raises out of position with small pairs
3.) What common phrasings or poker nomenclature is lost on you?
Fairly up to date with poker terms I believe.
4.) Where do you want poker to take you? Do you dream of playing the WSOP/AM?
I do not really think poker will/can take me anywhere. I used to think the WSOP or AM could be goals, but I now think I would most likely play the WSOP as sort of a 'bucket list' type of thing. I will likely play some steps for the AM but not really 'bust a gut' to get there. Poker is a professional goal/career for a minute percentage of poker players IMO. I currently think that $10 is well spent on a poker tourney for entertainment / action point of view (and potential to win a few $ if things go my way). In 6 months my $10 may be better spent on another form of entertainment eg a movie ticket
5.) Do you set yourself targets?
No. I have attempted this in the past however do not have the commitment to record keeping etc.
6.) Are you self taught or have you studied any literature?
I have read many books and understand the concepts laid out in them.
7.) If you could ask three questions of any pro or pros; who would the pro be and what would the questions be?
Tom Dwan - If you go busto, would you have the determination to graft through the lower stake games or borrow $ to keep playing higher stakes?
Joe Hachem - How much did you earn from poker the year before your WSOP success?
Doyle Brunson - Do you think you would have made more or less money if you did not write Super System?
8.) If you were a succesful player and had the bankroll would you quit working and play full time?
Hard to say. I think I would have to try it for a month (or so) but I am sure that it would not be a very glamorous career. I would have to be earning six figures to make it a better option to my current employment.
9.) Do you practice bankroll management?
Sort of, I play $2-10 tourneys mainly as this is manageable amount to lose and the prizes are a good amount to win if successful. I occasionally play higher $20 or so online, up to $200 for a live event
10.) Do you play any other games apart from 888PL, if so where and with who (online or live)? I play a small amount of Pokerstars tourneys, but just as a bit of variety. I like to play the occasional Crown tourney to play a higher level of live play than what else is available (pub poker the only other alternative really) and for a shot at a ‘big score’.
I am personally not interested in competing for a staking agreement (I have neither the commitment or determination to make it a viable proposition) but I thought I would answer the questions for your records.
I actually I think I represent the segment of 888pl players who think they have exceeded the appeal of pub poker (I still play weekly, but more to see my friends rather than chase points etc) but have not the desire to become ‘pro’ or ‘semi-pro’. Poker has become a pastime that i enjoy, with associated activities that I enjoy (books to read, forums to access, pop culture entertainment (tv shows etc) but it is not a realistic ‘career’.
I honestly think the percentage of winning poker players would be in single digits, and that is cool, because the other 90% or so play for valid reasons – many of which are lifestyle based and not solely $ driven.
I think you might become disappointed in how many 888pl actually want to do the ‘work’ to ‘make it’ in poker. I think your time might be better spent re-establishing your abilities (which your blog suggests you are doing quite well at) & continue working on making the 888pl a better league.
Who cares if 888pl players are good or bad? Pub poker will always be ridiculed as of little worth, but I think EVERY winning Australian poker player (barring old school types) would have gotten their first experiences of live poker at a pub poker venue – and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Good luck with it all.

you bring up some interesting points here.
do you think that 888pl should stick to just being a pub poker league for the purely recreational player or should they try and cater for everyone from the recreational player to the semi-professional?
personally, i think there is the scope for them to incorporate every type of non professional, and i think they are doing a good job of it so far.
you are right in that there is a very small minority of players that want to take the next step and start playing the bigger tournaments, but imo i think this is worth it because these players become walking advertisements for the league, and they should be afforded every opportunity to succeed at this higher level, not just 'thrown to the wolves' so to speak.

I have heard him say something like that before, but i wonder if the $ made from both the book & money he has made throught the growth of poker (which his book has been credited as a reason for the boom - chris moneymaker being the #1 reason of course) such as Doyles room etc..would be more or less then the $$ he would have made being a bigger shark in a smaller pond.
So if anyone on this forum meets him - ask him for me okay?
