The question he asked is a good one, he just asked it (unintentionally) as though he was only speaking to about 5 people and I thought I'd jump in before Bob did (love you Bob). In Bob's defense, at least he'd bother to ask so he could learn something. For most others they'd just go "wtf?" and move along and learn nothing cos to them it'd look like a private convo between you and macca.... or Bruce and himself.
And stuff you.
thanks Pete 4 your concern for the masses and me,
$1-40 per 100 hands to be good omg.
staked after 50000 hands piece of pie WSOP here I come.... ya meeeeeeeeeeeeee

Re: How do you know you are winning player?
Whilst i think that programs like PT and hold em manager are extremely useful tools, and back when i was grinding $3/6 for a living before working for the company i used them religiously. However todays game and styles played has significantly changed the way we view stats and use them to determine winrate and if we are successful at a certain level.
To ensure your a winning player your always looking to improve your game and plug leaks correct?, are you going to slack off after u set a goal to make 6bb/100 and ur at 7, or you may be at 5 are you going to work harder?, the point is that alot of people online these days model their play around PT stats, they lose creativity, become autobots, and fail to understand, learn and improve correct plays and game theory which ultimately determines win rate and their stats, not the other way round.
What people fail to understand also that whilst 25-50k of hands is a good sample rate, who says your going to be at your current level for that long, you could crush and move up alot faster. We all know that moving up stakes is determined by our expected EV for the next level and our current bankrolls, and take into account standard deviation and variance this could be 20k for some or 100k hands for others, but nonetheless it varies for many and i strongly think that whilst PT is a fantastic indicator of your current playing ability and winrate a major factor in determining whether to move up i personally believe is comfort and if you can answer yes to the ffollowing questions then that is a strong indication your ready to graduate.
Are you comfortable with the stakes?, can you detach yourself from the money involved? Questionably as you move up in stakes, the play gets harder, do you still have an edge? Can you still read and counter opponents strategies? Theres heaps more but its like 1 am, but in closing as much as you can dont rely on PT to determine whether or not your ready to move up in stakes

Re: How do you know you are winning player?
Good post Glynn, certainly some good information. I think your right in that you can't let pure stats dictate your play otherwise you become boring and way too ABC. This is one of the reasons i play only two tables. This still leaves room for varying strategies, trying new things and more detailed reads of opponents compared to playing 3, 4 or 6 tables.
Becoming detached from the amount of money involved is a good point and is hard to do. How many people make decisions based on whether they are up or down for a particular session and not based on the actual hand in question. This is something i am improving on, but can still get better.
Pete, there are some questions that are only aimed at the few people using a particular piece of software or in similar situations to me, so i would only expect an answer from people that know what they are talking about. So in short, be quiet.

Re: How do you know you are winning player?
From the title, I would expect anyone to want to answer.
I don't use pokertracker. So I have no idea what you are on about with these stats (I saw 7bb/100, as 7 big blinds per 100 hands, which I didn't think was that great).
Maybe, you could've titled the thread "How do you know when PT says you are a winning player", and you'd have your desired audience

Re: How do you know you are winning player?
pete, i have just re-read the first couple of posts, and i dont see anything at all wrong with them.
matthew asked how many hands are required at a level to know that your winning
i answered that, and then added stats from poker tracker that are generally accepted as proof you are going ok.
you come on here and say thats a private covnersation.
i dont get it. from now on, i am going to get you to explain the history of every player you mention in the world football thread, just in case someone who doesn't follow the EPL has an idea of who you are talking about.

Glad to see I'm not the only one on here who thought it was Big Blind related.
Thanks Pete. And yes, if I had been on earlier when the post was made I'd be asking the what the hell is Pokertracker, do I have one and if not where do I get it I need one sort of query!!!
I still don't know what it is but I assume it keeps information and an individual who wants to collect stats of some sort. Can I/we set up a PT or is it already there? And if so what are the advantages of having a PT and is available for everyone to
see?
--------------------------------------------------------------
On a personal note my game and attitude has changed considerably since playing online and reading the various posts on the forum. I'm enjoying the changes I've made and I feel I am playing much better poker for it.
It's a shame I stuffed around earlier by not playing tournies that I had entered. I realised after reading posts on here relating to the limitted numbers (150 & 200) and time restraints on various people that someone else could have played.
And the few that I did play in the early stages I failed to see the significance as to how it was so important for me to play good poker and gain points towards my 888PL totals.
When I would read about AK & benny the cunt etc I thought, "sorry guys" what a bunch of wankas patting each other on the back etc, etc, I didn't consider or bother to understand what all the friggin fuss was about.
Now, after reading ALL their posts, and reading ALL the topics and discussions, I finally realised the advantages of playing online and to have a crack at a major Grand Final Prize Pool.
So, now I've seen the light, I'm playing better poker I've changed my game so much and the results are slowly happening for me. Too late to make a run at the GF I feel but I'm still having a go.
If my additional waffling needs to be moved then please do so. I realise I've got a little caught up in my own confession to being somewhat ignorant and not understand the significance of the home and away games and the $$$$$$$ at the end.
Anything I/we can learn on the forum is a bonus keep it up guys, regards Bob B
