Gundog - this has been discussed before.

Internode are number 1.
Adam are number 2.
TPG are cheap as cheap at the moment but I know nothing of their service.
Pretty much forget anyone else.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Thats Cool.

All 3 offer a VoIP service, I'm still somewhat confused if VoIP is actually the way to go, does the ISP allocate you a phone no ?

There's a FAQ section on internodes site, it's quite good so the answer will probably be in there, but it would have to be 'yes' because how else would someone ring you? :)

(At school again)

I had the same wtf moment as you Pete. I didn't think i would have any downtime just increasing my speed but staying with an Adam ADSL1 connection. However when i rang them they said it would be a 3-5 day wait. Im pretty sure they only have to press a few buttons on the computer, and why haven't i got my original broadband connection in the meantime.

Should i ring and abuse them, or is having no internet at all expected in this situation.

From memory, some companies were porting people to their own infrastructure even if they were staying within the Telstra supplied speed range, as their own ports allowed them a greater margin. This was a while ago tho....

Wonder if they just used this juncture to move you over?

If that's what they are doing, that does sound realistic.

Can't say I blame them!

But putting them on their own equipment essentially means going from ADSL1 to ADSL2. I don't know of anyone having their own ADSL1 equipment (but I could be wrong).

I would definitely ring them and ask if you are staying on ADSL1 or being migrated to ADSL2. If you are being migrated, make sure you check to see if your filters are ADSL2+ rated or you'll have problems.

cheers pete i will ring them (im at school again)

Everything (modem, router) etc seems to be working correctly, and my computer says im connected to that particular wireless network, but it only says access is local, instead of local and internet.

Could this be a problem with my internet settings?

The better not be trying to put me on ADSL2, and i specifically sent them an email with the deatils to be chaned over. I know it should take a few days to increase speed but shouldnt i have my old connection in the meantime?

It doesn't take a few days to increase speed. It takes a few seconds.

I can understand if the plan change you requested is not available till the end of your current billing month (this is standard) but that doesn't mean you go without in the meantime!

'local only' is to do with your computers connection to the modem (I'm glad you said you use a WiFi modem).

Did they actually say your connection will be down or did it just stop working? Which modem do you have?

not sure of the brand of my modem, it was the standard one i got with Kern internet a few years ago (kern were bought out by Adam). I did ring them up (as i assumed it would take only a few seconds like you said), but they said it would take 3-5 days, which confused me.

i might ring them tomorrow. If, however, its my computers connection that is the problem, do i try deleting my current connection and starting from scratch again? would i need to change anything in my internet settings to adjust for the change in speed?

When i try to go onto the net now, i get an error message from adam suggesting my account has been suspended, and i can still log into adam's members area - but when i do, everything appears normal...
