If you had cbet another 250 instead of the overbet, he was flatting that as well. So how would you have played the turn then?

he was never folding there, only place would of been pre-flop

The only way to get away from that is to bet less on the flop so you're not committed on the turn. As Scott said, say if you lead 400, he flats. If you check turn and he bets, that's easy to fold. As played, nothing wrong with a turn shove. C/f on the turn (after the 950 flop bet) is pretty bad, unless you have a gun read.

It would allow me to feel less committed to the flop but a bet of 250 would make it a pot size 1050 giving my opponents I suspect of having drawing hands with the pre flop limp calls 4-1.

Of course; but in using that logic, the only players calling the over bet are almost always smashing you at that point.
