Cheers guys. I too would rather wire the PC, but Dave's PC will be going right down the back of the house, nowhere near the phone line, so its not an option. Wireless will have to do.

I'll look into those options, maybe head down to my local Tandy, ask them. Cheers again.

One of my staff has a standard ADSL bigpuddle internet connection.

ie
ADSL line into modem and the option of USB or network cables.

Dumb question

Could she have the home pc connected with via USB and then connect a Wireless network access point to the other port for the laptop wireless connection.

She has a belkin WANP.

short answer is no.

you need a wireless router to plug the modem into.

i have tried what you are suggesting, thinking it was possible to get a wireless ad-hoc network going, but i dont think its possible.

So that means she plugs the modem and WAP into a hub and so on.

Anyone got a 4 port hub there not using.

I myself use a netconect card modem no cables no access points use it anywhere

I have never run out of allowable usage and @ $39 for 5gb is plenty for me, but then again I have no interest in downloading movies.

There is a trade off when you live in the the county you only get 3G speed at best and often only just above dialup but in the city its full HSPDA.

Its not often I need better than dial up for online poker, forum, email, browseing etc etc, If I want to download something extra large then I start it and go to bed no a worry.

But the flexibility of being able to use it almost anywhere suits me fine

i regularly use my 20 gig quota a month, so the mobile broadband plans aren't really an option for me.
