In regards to the buy-in, yes, it is real money in a way, but if you have a $1500 starting stack, and the buy-in was $45, then effectively the chips are worth $0.30 each. Whereas a $1 chip in cash is $1.

at the cas i play the $45 every 2 weeks or so. i have not done 2 bad, allways walked out up playing poker! i tend to play 4 8 lim or 5 5 no lim after the tourny

there are rich donks out there as well - any of the normal casino limits will have bad players playing.

my personal experience is that the casino has 3 types of players - the players that should be at the pokies, the players such as most of us that know what they are doing but don't play regularly, and the regulars.

usually its pretty easy to work out which players fall into each of these categories.

stay out of the way of the regulars unless you have good cards


the other thing i will say speaking from personal experience, is once the chips are on the felt, consider them lost. what i mean by this, is expect to lose them all, and be ok with this.

i found when i first played at the casino, i was really really tight. but if you play your normal game and forget about what that pot is worth, you will play a lot better.

most people would prolly say the above is obvious, but that is my thoughts on the casino - i wish i played more there!

JJ - I'll 2nd this advice!

Care about the money, and you won't play your natural game. I used to be able to do this quite well when playing black jack - as you must double and split when the odds are in your favour, regardless of how many/few chips you have left.

Conversely, I started playing in online ring games on the weekend, and have bled money left right and center - chiefly because I'm concentrating on how much the pot is worth in $$ terms, and how much damage it will do to my bankroll. VERY BAD IDEA

More advise for you JJ. LOL. And believe it or not I agree with benny the cunt and Rcon. If your going to gamble be prepared to lose. I actually learnt the hard way that if your gonna gamble there's a good chance your gonna lose.

So, my advise would be if you have say $200 that you are prepared to lose and it's not your rent, food or petrol money for the week then that's your stake money.

There are always going to be the "Dipsticks" who have lots of money and will push ALLIN with nuthin. There will always be the "Dill" who will call with nuthin. And there's always gonna be some really bad beats for and against.

Hell, we get the same people on NPL. The only diffference is your not shelling out your own cash other than what you spend to card up which is usually a meal and a couple of drinks.

I'm sure your a smart lady and know all of the above anyway JJ.

Bob, I might have heard some of it, but it NEVER hurts to hear the same thing over and over again, because honestly, I am not the best at retaining information, often I do read something for the hundredth time and think, OMG.. I should have remembered that!

My only other issue is, I am never willing to lose anything, in which case I have no doubt I should be betting or playing at all... LOL

theres on guy with glasses who looks like antonio esfendiari (spelling), an old guy with a jack daniels chip protector, tom who used to work for NPL (asian guy), this guy with dark sunnies on whos always on the end of tables

there the only ones i can think of haha

i figure the regulars are pretty easy to pick

they usually know the dealers and are chatting to them

they just lost a 200 buck pot to a gutshot and they look as if they dont care that much (also classify the donk in this hand!)

the regulars generally look as if they have been there done that - the donks look pissed, and the non-regulars will generally be a bit on edge (which brings me back to the expect to lose comment)

man i wish i could play more at the cas, it is great fun
