The Black Album tour totally screwed his voice up and he hasn't been the same since. He struggles to sing the old stuff (Like the recent concert I heard) and no matter what he does it won't be the same. That's ok, he adapts, changes and moves on.

Absolutely. The problem with the vocals on St Anger weren't that he didn't sound like he did in the 80s, but rather that he sounded like he was TRYING to and failed. Despite the criticism of his voice on DM, I feel that he sounds a lot better than he did on St Anger. Oh and not everyones voice blows out after years and years of singing - I'd say a lot of the damage was done by all the alcohol and shit that goes with the status. For comparison, I'd argue that Bruce Dickinson sounds as good today as he did in the 80s But that's neither here nor there.

And yeah, Some Kind of Monster was a great documentary, even if it did have the effect of making you dislike Lars even more than before, as BigPete said.

I can't see how any actual Metallica fan, or anyone who has any sort of grasp of anthropology, would view Some Kind of Monster and continue to denigrate Lars.
