#4. in Garths post brings back so many memories when I taught new people how to sell insurance and set goals for their future.

It's very similar to a small child taking their first couple of steps to walk and we get so excited, then they fall over. They get up, try again and fall over again!!! But eventually they can walk and even run just like you and me.

But as life goes on we will have fallen over many, many, times. It all comes down to understanding why or how we can correct the problem to help eliminate falling over once more.

Personal goals are great and I always suggested to my trainees to choose small goals that will help you get to your final goal such as Garth is refering too.

I wrote a post recently on what I had to do to win my first online freeroll game. First goal was to build my stack to better than average b4 the first break. Second keep building my stack but most of all make points. Third goal, make final table with a mid-range chipstack or better and finally try and win the tourney.

I'm now aiming for my second one which hasn't happened yet, LOL.

But like the small child trying to walk I'm gonna stumble and fall a few times so like you and me and many others it's a matter of how determined I/we am to get up and try again, isn't it????

By the way nice post Garth and others.

Garth,
I am really pouring my heart into what you have written, there is so much to digest but I will be posting what you have asked me to do so.

There is so much solid advice in there!!!!

As you have also stated it can take over and ruin lives. I don't think I am in the ruin lives part, but I am certainly in the take over part.
Please don't think I am not taking on your advice, I have printed it out, alongside with snippets from what everyone else has said and I will be posting a reply when I have completed my first weekly game on Wednesday.

Thankyou so much Garth, sincerely.. It is just amazing the effort you put into each and every individual player. I am touched.

Hi all,

Cazz suggested I read this post as I'm going through the same thing as she is .......

I have to say that my first reaction (prior to reading anything!) was 'how on earth would reading stuff help'. However, all the replies that are on here are great, and have some fantastic ideas that I'm sure will help me climb out of the slump, hopefully as a much improved player - I'll be taking a look at Caroline's posts to see what is said about her play, and trying to apply the same thing to my losing hands.

Not to mention that Thursday nights are definitely set aside for fun ........ hey Cazz?
I have never laughed so much at a poker game as last Thursday night!!!

So, thanks all for the help that you've given to Cazz ....... which will hopefully help me out as well!

I did finish 3rd last night.
Maybe if I chip bullied could have ended up with a much bigger stack, but in all honesty it would have diverted me from the game I usually play.

So as suggested I went back to basics and approached it in a far different manner and felt so much better as a result. I tried to enjoy my game more and played the kind of game I used to rather than the one I had evolved into.

Everyones suggestions DEFINATELY HELPED!!!

Thankyou all

it sounds like you have probably had a poker disease that no doubt we all have from time to time, and its called FPS - Fancy Play Syndrome.

against the typical opposition in the 888pl games, there is no need for anything more complicated than waiting for a hand and then value betting the crap out of it. your "going back to basics" approach might very well have stopped you from doing this.

well done on the result caroline, you deserve it. pity you didn't crack it for the ticket though.

I hope it does help you out Dizz...
Personally I have not noticed a change in your game, it has and always is a strong consistent one that when I bet and you call... gets me in so much trouble.. lol

But our Thursday night games are always what gets me through a bad run!!!
I pretty much come home sick from laughing every night.

That could well be the case too benny the cunt, that is an awesome way of saying it.
Just the nudge in the right direction can make such a huge difference.
Thanks for the congrats, I would love to crack the ticket, but as suggested by Garth I am going to lower my goals and concentrate on just getting a win this season and take it from there.
