Good CHESS player = Good POKER player?

Thoughts please?

Chess makes you think about moves in advance, such as..."if i do this, he'll do that, then i'll do this and he'll have to do that, then i can go like this, and he'll have to move here, and then i can......" ect, ect - you get the drift.

It uses left/right brain functions and i believe if you 've played chess before or play it well, you will adapt as a very good poker player.

Obviously we do this in poker when trying to put players on a hand by re-constructing their actions and bets and position and prior history ect, ect. :geek:

What got me thinking this was playing Chess Titans on the hardest level on my computer just recently. I learnt to play chess at age six, when my grandfather used to play against me. I played it solid for about 10 years till i discovered girls and cars. ;) I've played it sporadically since then but not for at least 3 years. It really sharpens up the grey matter i can tell you, and it is great preparation for poker.

Anyone else fancy themselves as good at chess? :ugeek:

PS. I've met DOZENS of people who said they were, quote: "quite good" at chess, only to have them say "what was that you just done?' after i castled my king. :D

Andy McLeod - James Obst. Former Australian Chess Player
Seabeast - Jay Kinkade - Former Magic player.
Hevad Khan - Former Starcraft Player.

All the games have some sort of optimum strategy, most of these players have been able to translate it into poker.

But obviously the strategy changes when people do something different, so the other hand is being able to adapt quickly to a changing situation.

Then again, discipline, dedication the usual required to be good at what you do.
